Fonds consists of textual records that document the origins, development, and activities of the Fisheries Centre, particularly its predecessor programmes: the Institute of Fisheries and the Institute of Animal Resource Ecology. The records include correspondence, reports, financial statements, grant documentation, minutes and agendas, course outlines, and published materials.

Institute research activities records series

The series consists of correspondence, reports, and other records relating to Institute research activities and facilities. It also includes Noman Wilimovsky’s bound volume of library zoological plates with correspondence inserted in this volume. The work is oversized and located in the UBC Archives Vault Bay 6A (88a) column 4, shelf 4.

Administrative records series

Series consists of correspondence, reports, and other records relating to the general administration and operation of the Institute, including records relating to policies and procedures, activities, and events of the Institute, as well as faculty lists.

External collaboration and projects files series

Series consists of records pertaining to the Institute's collaboration and involvement with various external organizations, agencies, committees, and task and project groups. Records include correspondence, reports, minutes, and papers.

Grant records series

Sub-series consists of completed forms, notices, and correspondence relating to the Institute's application for various grants, as well as records pertaining to institutional reviews by granting bodies and the administration of grant funds.

Publications series

Series consists of Institute publications, including annual reports, newsletters, and handbooks, as well as records relating to material published by Institute faculty.

Financial records series

Series consists of records pertaining to Institute funding. Includes records relating to the Institute's budget and to grant project funding applied for and obtained. Series has been arranged into the following two sub-series: Budget records (1963-1982) and Grant records (1968-1978).

Institute seminar records series

Series consists of notices, lists, correspondence, and other records concerning seminars offered by the Institute. Includes also some records pertaining to relevant seminars offered by the Department of Zoology and other university departments.
