Biographical history
Peter Cotton entered UBC as a student in 1945. In February 1946, he became the first president of the Pre-Architecture Club, formed by students interested in studying architecture. Cotton wrote to UBC President Norman Mackenzie, advocating for establishing a department or school of architecture, and Mackenzie asked the club to collect information about anticipated costs and programme requirements. The result was the establishment of the Department of Architecture later that year. Cotton graduated with a B.Arch. in 1952 and specialized in furniture design.
