The collection reflects the forestry operations and projects undertaken by Western Forest Products and their predecessors. The majority of the material dates to the 1980s, with some material dating to as early as the 1950s and as late as the early 2000s. Much of the contents relates to MacMillan Bloedel Limited, in particular their tree farm licenses (TFLs), silvicultural practices, and some corporate information.

Tree farm license records include: project reports, working and management plans, and maps. Silviculture records include: growth and yield reports, environmental reports, literature, and summaries of silvicultural projects. Corporate records include meeting agendas and minutes, publications, and microfiche.

There are three main types of material in the collection: textual records, maps, and microfiche. The initial acquisition also included aerial photographs which have subsequently been transferred to the UBC Geographic Information Centre.

Fonds illustrates James R. Stanton’s personal life and guiding business in Knight Inlet, British Columbia. It consists of an unpublished biography written by Stanton (including a foreword by R.M. Lorentsen and an epilogue by Blair Mclean), photographs selected by Stanton for his manuscript, and additional photographs and slides of the Stanton family.

The collection consists of six incoming letters, four handwritten by Emily Carr to Ann Smith (1936, 1940, 1941 and 1943) and the other two from Alice M. Carr (1945, 1953).

This fonds consists of records related to Darryl Adams' activities as a political and social justice activist as well as his personal life. The fonds consists of three series: personal life and administrative records; activism involvement series; and activism collections series.

Records relating to the first series, Adams' personal life and administrative files include: personal correspondence received by Adams; photographs collected, taken of or by Adams'; school records and club memberships memorabilia; news clippings and other articles; and work related records such as research materials and correspondence.

Records relating to the second series, the activism involvement series, include material created or used by groups that Adams was involved in such as the Vancouver American Exiles Association (VAEA), as well as the Galindo Madrid Case of the 1970s. These records include meeting minutes; correspondence; conference, seminar, and workshop materials; materials by or about other communist, socialist, or leftist organizations; papers, articles, speeches, critiques, letters, and reports on related topics; ephemera and publications, such as newsletters, journals, and clippings; and sound recordings such as interviews Adams' gave on behalf of VAEA.

The last series consists of three major collections that Adams obtained over his lifetime. The first collection is the lefty literature collection that consists of newspapers, magazines, periodicals, booklets and bulletins, and other publications related to leftist themes. The second collection is a poster collection and the last collection is a button collection.

This fonds consists of 12 series; meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, welfare funds, videos, regulations and legislation, related organizations, general business records, land referrals, herring (roe), financial, First Nations, and salmon. Each of the series relates to the F.V.O.A.'s work with fishing and water concerns. The same issues defined within each of these series are also documented through the newspaper clippings. The minutes span over 40 years, beginning in 1938, and include general, committee, director's and membership meetings. The fonds also includes copies of legislation and regulations relating to various fishing and water related concerns, such as ports and harbours, maritime codes, vessel construction, shipping, and research. The F.V.O.A.'s ongoing cooperative work with relevant outside groups is documented through numerous drafts, proposals, agreements, reports, and correspondence. The videos are of the Skeena River Steelhead, Salmon, the Sportfish Observer Program and First Nations fishing rights. There is a large amount of land referral material (the application for use of Crown land) including several maps. With reference directly to fish; there is information on herring (roe) related issues, and a significant amount of documents covering Salmon. A vast portion of the Salmon series deals with Canadian-U.S. negotiations regarding poaching, water boundaries, salmon shares, runs and catches. The fonds provides overall insight into the workings of the F.V.O.A.

Fonds consists primarily of material related to Rush's activities as a leader of the CCP, political activist and writer in Vancouver from 1935 to 1996. There is also a personal/biographical series of records which detail the events of Rush's life. Other textual series in this fonds contain drafts of Rush's writings and public speeches, his correspondence, his reports and speeches to party conventions, and his published materials. There is a photographs series which details Rush's various editorial political trips to socialist countries during the Cold War. The memorabilia series also contains material related to Rush's trips abroad. There are pins, medals and commemorative coins from China, Vietnam and the Soviet Union. Finally, an audiocassette series contains recordings of some of Rush's speeches during the 1970s and 1980s.

Fonds includes correspondence between the Fee Packaging Service Corporation and its employees (primarily R.F. Marshall) as well as clients. Correspondence between the company and its clients include letters, telegrams and questionnaires pertaining to the installation of machinery for packaging lard or other compounds. The corporation's principle customers included Swift and Company, Proctor and Gamble Company and Wilson and Company. The Fee Packaging Service Corporation also corresponded with other companies such as Oscar Mayer, Hormel Company, and Bell Packing Company.

The fonds consists of a 24-page dossier that summarizes operations at the Nanaimo Electric Light, Power and Heating Company through text, photographs, and a map. The dossier was put together prior to the merger of Nanaimo Electric Light, Power and Heating Company with Duncan Utilities Power Limited, forming Nanaimo Duncan Utilities Limited in July 1934.

This material was created and compiled in the course of research for the preparation, firstly, of a bibliography of Roderick Haig-Brown’s writings, and secondly, for a biography of Haig-Brown.

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Dave Barrett relating to his personal, political, and professional life. Within the fonds there are appointment books recording information about Dave Barrett's private and political life, personal records, records created by Dave Barrett in the course of creating his autobiography, records created during Mr . Barrett's political career, and records created during Dave Barrett' s work with CJOR.

The collection consists of records relating to the 1935 On-to-Ottawa Trek and its 50th Anniversary. Included are copied posters, newsletters, proclamations, legal documents, and photographs relating to the original Trek as well as audio tapes, clippings and itineraries from the 1985 anniversary events.

This fonds consists predominantly of photographs and other reproductions of Lansdowne’s work which were created over the course of his career. Artwork contained in the fonds include unfinished drawings and sketches, reproductions and prints, as well as art inventory files which provide details of works that were sold, and for specific named projects. The fonds also includes business and personal correspondence, as well as financial records pertaining to the sale of artwork, Lansdowne’s services as a commercial painter, and his business relationship with M.F. Feheley Arts Company Limited and TDF Artists Limited. Records also include biographical information, awards and ephemera, along with publications containing his work, and newspaper clippings about his work and career. Photographs depict family and friends, Lansdowne at work, as well as publicity photographs.

The fonds consists primarily of clippings and articles relating to international affairs, Chinese customs preserved in Canada, life in Vancouver's China Town and social and political problems confronted by Chinese Canadians. Further, the fonds also contains many complete copies of the Chinatown newspaper, The Chinese Voice; records related to Foon Sien Wong's Chinatown activities through the Vancouver Unity Association, the Canadian Centennial Planning Committee, and other related groups.

Fonds consists of records related to Jack Scott’s activities as a political activist and author, as well as material related to his personal life, from the 1930s through his death in 2000. Records relating to Scott’s political activities include material generated or used by groups with which Scott was involved, such as the Progressive Workers’ Movement (PWM), the Vancouver Study Group (VSG), the Red Star Collective (RSC), and the Chinese-Canadian Friendship Association (CCFA). These records include meeting minutes and summaries; committee lists, agendas, reports, policies, constitutions, financial statements, and other internal documents; position, discussion, and opinion papers and critiques; conference, seminar, and workshop materials; correspondence; materials by or about other communist, socialist, or leftist organizations; papers, articles, speeches, critiques, letters, and reports on related topics; ephemera and publications, such as newsletters and journals; clippings and photographs; and other materials. Records relating to Scott’s writings and publications on socialist and labour movements and other topics include drafts of published and unpublished pieces, research notes, comments and corrections, proofs, and supporting documents, such as correspondence, clippings and photocopies, ephemera, and other materials. The fonds also consists of material related to a libel claim made against Scott and the Committee on Canadian Labour History. These records include copies of court documents, correspondence, Scott’s writings and research on the plaintiffs, ephemera related to the plaintiffs, and other materials. The fonds also consists of material collected by Jack Scott relating primarily to other communist, socialist, leftist, or social justice organizations and arranged by subject either by Jack Scott or by his acquaintances following his death. This material includes photocopies and originals of letters, writings, and other documents; statements, commentaries, bulletins, and other literature; ephemera, such as posters, newspaper clippings, flyers, newsletters, and pamphlets; and speech texts. The fonds also consists of personal papers and documents, including miscellaneous incoming correspondence, oral history interview transcripts and related documents, and correspondence and documents related to Scott’s 1964 expulsion from the Communist Party.

The Irving Guttman Collection is a large collection of photographs of different people and places in the opera world. There are two different parts of this photographic collection: The first part of the collection includes pictures of Mr. Guttman directing and coaching opera performers, or posing with opera enthusiasts from across the globe. A large bulk of these first photographs are of Mr. Guttman's production of the operas, Norma, Tosca, Traviatta, and Aida. However, other operas such as Madam Butterfly, Daughter of the Regiment, Othello, Carmen and more are included in the Collection.

The second part of the collection consists of autographed portraits of opera performers, and other operatic stakeholders. The list of operatic singers, conductors, composers and directors, includes but is not limited to: Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Leonard Bernstein, Joan Sutherland, Cristina Deutekom, Montserrat Caballé, John Alexander, Tracy Dahl, Marilyn Horne, Linda Roark-Strummer, Huguette Tourangeau, Renata Tebaldi, Clarice Carson, Regina Resnik, Mary Costa, Irene Salemka, Cecilia Bartoli, Judith Forst, Ermanno Mauro, and Sylvia Sass.

Lastly, there is a collection of congratulatory letters to Mr. Guttman for his 25th anniversary as artistic director of the Edmonton Opera.

The fonds consists of 71 holograph letters from Ethel Wilson to Cheney, as well as correspondence from Wallace Wilson, Mary [Dodds] and Dorothy McNair. There is also correspondence between Nan Cheney and various artists, including Emily Carr, between the years 1938 and 1984. Cheney's subject files on Canadian artists are included in the fonds, along with newspaper and periodical clippings, memorabilia, photographs and manuscripts.

The fonds consists of the business records created and/or collected by Arsenal Pulp Press, predominately from the early 1980s to the late 2000s. These records consist of correspondence, manuscripts, proofs, reviews, catalogues, broadsheets, advertisements, flyers, clippings concerning Arsenal publications and the Press, artwork, financial and sales records, ledgers, legal records, minutes and other organizational material.

The fonds was originally divided into the following four series: Correspondence; Editorial; Administrative; and Special projects. The Correspondence series contains the following subseries: General correspondence, Editorial correspondence and Correspondent-specific correspondence. The Editorial series contains the following subseries: Early manuscripts, General literary manuscripts, Published/printed material, Artwork, and Supplementary editorial records. The fonds consists of typed and handwritten manuscripts of short stories and poems.

Correspondence, clippings, 2 framed calligraphic pieces, 1 framed hand-drawn, hand-coloured map, 1 leatherbound guestbook, 2 scrapbooks, 5 bone folders, 1 leatherbound box, and 8 metal stamps all relating to Dorothy Burnett, a bookbinder who lived and worked in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The fonds reflects Bernard and Jean Webber’s functions as leading members of the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation, teachers and education administrators, and advocates for local arts, history and Indigenous cultural regeneration. The fonds is comprised of 4 series; Political Papers series, Correspondence and Biographies series, Education and Employment Records series, and Community Activities series. Materials related to Indigenous arts, education and reconciliation are found throughout the fonds. Correspondence is its own series and is also found throughout, including copies of outgoing business correspondence.

Fonds reflects Blondal's personal life and work as a writer, radio broadcaster, university student and researcher whose interests include religion, philosophy, psychology and criminology in the 1940s and 1950s. Records are arranged into four series, spanning from about 1929 to 1963, including documents that were added by her husband following her death in 1959.

The fonds consists of biographical material, correspondence (1928-1946), minutes, subject files, clippings and printed material pertaining to the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation in British Columbia. Amongst Shepherd's papers are those of his wife, Dorothy H. Shepherd, which relate to her work as an executive member of the South Westminster CCF Women's Club (1942-1959).

The collection consists of research material created or collected by Olof Seaholm pertaining to Swedish immigration and organizations to Canada and North America. The collection mainly consists of general research material related to these themes, but there is some more specialized research into specific areas of Swedish Canadian history, such as the Scandinavian Central Committee and the International Order of Good Templars. Textual records in this collection include minute books, clippings, a constitution, correspondence, research notes, newspaper and magazine issues and clippings, books, and photographs documenting Swedish communities in British Columbia and research material about Swedish activities in North America.

The collection contains four series related to Seaholm's research. They include the Swedish Canadian research material series; Scandinavian Central Committee series; Independent Order of Good Templars series; and the Swedish Canadian Rest Home material series.

The fonds consists of records pertaining to the life and literary career of Carol Coates, as well as that of her brother William H. Coates (1899-1976). It includes correspondence, designs, printed material and clippings. It also contains the typescript of tributes to W.H. Coates during memorial services in 1976 as well as the typescript of Carol Coates' "Invitation to Mood" (1974-1975). Accrual consists draft poems, both typed and handwritten, and handwritten school notes from a class Coates attended at UBC.

Fonds consists of legal documents, reports, publications, speeches, newspaper clippings and other material related to Evans’ labour activities, including the On-to-Ottawa Trek and resulting Regina Riot Commission, and the defence of Trek members arrested in the Regina Riot. Fonds reflects William A. Paskins’ early career in naturopathy, including his presidency of the Association of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia. The material appears to be from the 1940s and 1950s and includes transcripts and copies of speeches, lectures, and publications by Paskins. One publication featured in this fonds is the typescript for a book entitled "How to be happy and healthy though civilized; psychosomatic medicine for psychosomatic diseases".

The fonds contains notebooks, photographs, ephemera and correspondence relating to the career of Constable (and later Sergeant) Samuel Service with the British Columbia Provincial Police and, following the merge in 1950, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The records related to Service's work and life in the cities and surrounding regions of Port Alberni, Cowichan, Chemainus and Victoria.

Many of the records in this fonds were used in relation to Burch’s autobiography, and therefore pertain to his childhood, education, navy service, and largely to his career as a forester. These records include genealogical research materials, photographs, educational certificates, navy service records, and textual documentation of his career and interests in forestry. It also reflects other projects undertaken by Burch, such as the Working Forest publication, a history of South Vancouver Island, as well as papers, research, correspondence, and speeches. The fonds consists of materials related to Mabel Taylor's nursing career and international travels. The materials document the professional life and world travel of an independent woman in the first half of the twentieth century. Record types include diplomas and certificates of nursing, travel documents including Taylor's passport and visas, correspondence related to job openings, as well as Taylor's written exam for obtaining a drivers' license in Durban, South Africa.

Notebook containing a copy of "The Totem Poles in Stanley Park" by Rev. John C. Goodfellow, photographs taken from "Potlatch and Totem and the Recollections of an Indian Agent" by W. M. Halliday, and letters and photographs of Vancouver artist George Norris. The notebook also contains a cover letter from Leonard A. Woods about the materials in the notebook and some background information about Norris, as well as newspaper clippings and ephemera.

The fonds consists of a bound report entitled "Preliminary Mining Report on the 'Mount of the Holy Cross' Group of Gold-arsenical pyrites mineral Claims : - Situated on Wardle Creek, near Hope in the Yale Mining Division of the Providence of British Columbia, Dominion of Canada," compiled by Ronald Campbell Campbell-Johnston, mining, geological and metallurgical engineer, in Vancouver, B.C., May 1923. The report includes an index of contents and a list of photographs.

The fonds primarily features Maxim Lieber’s personal correspondence, particularly from 1965-1985; correspondence with academics interested in aspects of his personal and professional life; and publishing contracts for his edited anthologies. Additionally, some personal correspondence belongs to Maxim Lieber’s wife, Minna Lieber. Significant individuals represented include Langston Hughes, Erskine Caldwell, Malcolm Cowley, Vladimir Solomonovich Pozner, Howard Fast, Albert Maltz (of the Hollywood Ten), and Allen Weinstein (author of Perjury: The Hiss-Chambers Case).

Records are arranged in files. Documentary forms include the following: personal correspondence; signed copies of poems; a photograph of Langston Hughes from 1965; signed contracts for Lieber’s various edited anthologies; and cheque stubs.

Fonds consists of records relating to Dr. Harry Mark Draggatt's philatelic interests and contains biographical information about Dr. Daggett including his birth certificate, grade school and high school report cards, University Diplomas, and a number of photographs. The fonds is made up of three series as determined by the creator. The series are Literature Study Group, BA Clips, and Personal.
