Cited student questionnaires series

This series contains material related to a 1967 questionnaire for UC Berkeley students who had received citations for illegal use of sound equipment at a 1966 student strike and demonstration. Research material includes questionnaires, code sheets, and notes; also included are clippings documenting the strike and posters from striking student groups.

Student activism coverage series

This series includes annotated newspaper and magazine articles, clippings, and academic publications collected by Whittaker that relate to student activism in the 1960s and 1970s.

Correspondence and conferences series

This series includes general professional correspondence from throughout Whittaker’s career, as well as feedback and responses for a 1970 senior questionnaire run by Whittaker at the CRDHE. Also included are copies of papers presented at various conferences, along with a name badge from a conference or event.

Faculty Association series

Series consists of reports, minutes of meetings, recommendations, summaries, and correspondence about the Naegle Report (Committee on Faculty Participation in University Government).

Courses series

Series consists of course outlines, comments on student essays, schedules, handouts, exams, and course evaluations about courses taught by Harnetty.

Cassette Tape series

Series consists of 83 cassette tapes of W.T. Lane's lectures, which correspond to his lecture notes. This audio is available from the archives vault AT UBC 3239-3296 and 2007 accrual UBC 3339-3363. Please ask archives staff for access.

Dean’s Office Subject series

Series includes documentation that originated from within the office of the Dean of Education. This includes documentation relating to information such as the promotion and tenure of faculty, reports regarding the Faculty of Education, budget documentation, minutes from specific Dean’s committees such as the Dean’s Advisory Council, documentation relating to programs within the Faculty of Education, FTE reports, and data regarding marks, acceptance information, and regarding the employment of graduates. The files have been re-organized in alphabetical order. Most of the files are dated from the 1960, 1970, and 1980s, although there are some from the 1950s and 1990s. Many files from the 1970s and 1980s were housed in large binders. Note that the minutes and documentation related directly to the Dean (such as the Dean’s Advisory Council, Dean’s Advisory Committee, and the Dean’s Office Meetings) are within the Dean’s Office Subject series.

Committee series

The series consists of information from numerous committees, meetings, and councils within the Faculty of Education. Examples include minutes and documentation from the Administration Committee, Chairmen of Departments Meetings, Elementary Division Council, Faculty Meetings, Head’s Advisory Committee, and the Policy Council. The majority of the material dates from the 1970s and 1980s. The series has been re-organized by committee/council/meeting name.

Photograph series

Series consists of photographs from the Faculty of Education. The bulk of the photographs are from the Apple Classroom of Tomorrow Project.

Professional Work series

Series consists of materials documenting Epstein’s professional career and activities, and includes copies of his degree dissertations, copies and off-prints of his articles, a copy of his book Spouted Beds along with the Russian translation, scholarly publications that Epstein edited or which included his work, correspondence, other writings, his CV, his awards and honours, and other writings.

Administration series

Series consists of office and personal correspondence (1964-1984), budget records (1964-1978), committee records (1931-1973) and miscellaneous (1953-1984).

Photograph Series

Series consists of thirty photographs in black and white or color. Fifteen of the color photographs are adhered to poster board as a collage for the 1993 festival. Photographs depict different scenes from Brave New Play Rites productions in addition to “back stage” images of actors participating in plays.

Exams series

This series consists of drafts for exam diagrams, figures, and questions; as well as final copies of exams for courses in the Department of Civil Engineering taught by Ruus.

Committees series

Series consists of minutes, reports, and correspondence regarding committees established within the Faculty. It is arranged in the following sub-series: Curriculum Committee, Senior Appointments Committee, and Other Committees.

Faculty series

Series consists of correspondence and CV's relating to certain members of the Faculty, and their employment, retirement, and activities.

UBC Non-departmental Correspondence series

Series consists of correspondence, with some accompanying reports and published materials, between the Office of the Dean of Arts and other University offices, including the President's Office and the Registrar.

Plays series

This series contains textual records relating to Angel’s work as a playwright. It includes draft scripts, published scripts, posters, programs, newspaper clippings, and other play ephemera. Of his 17 plays produced, this series has materials related to 12 plays:
• “The King of Siam” (1966)
• “The Ballad of Etienne Brule” (1968)
• “How the Greeks Dealt with their Military and Industrial Complex in 546 B.C.” (1969)
• After Antietam (1975)
• Incident After Antietam (1976)
• Isadora and G.B. (1977)
• “Star Turns” (1977)
• “3000 Years of Sexual Politics” (1985)
• “God is Alive and Well and Living in Riverdell Psychiatric Hospital” (1995)
• “Moliere’s Misanthrope: A Gender Inverted Hollywood-North Adaptation” (1995)
• The Unveiling (1982)
• “Breaking the Glass” (1991)
Draft material related to his monologue titled “A Poet Goes to the Dentist” can be found in the poetry series, as it was received interfiled with poetry drafts. The undated materials have been arranged alphabetically with the dated materials arranged chronologically.

Poetry series

This series includes drafts of poetry, mostly unpublished, along with clippings of the Or Shalom Synagogue’s newsletter, Keren Or, in which some of his poetry was published. The poems in Keren Or are published under Leonard Angel, or his transliterated Hebrew name: Yehudah Angel, or Yehudah ben Kalam v’Esther. Much of his unpublished poetry is undated. This series also contains drafts of Angel’s produced monologue, “A Poet Goes to the Dentist.” The materials have been arranged alphabetically by subject.

Sketchbooks series

This series consists of Angel’s “black books,” sketchbooks that were used as journals of his daily life. Handwritten notes and pen and ink drawings comprise the majority of their content. His notes document rehearsals for his plays, early designs for his card game, and people and landscapes in his personal life. Many drawings of individuals are identified as participants in conferences, meetings, and events attended by Angel; some of these include Or Shalom meetings, philosophy talks and conferences, and World Federalist events and talks. Some, but not all sketchbooks include a list of identified individuals and locations on their final page. Several journals contain pamphlets, programs, and other ephemera interfiled between pages. Journals have been arranged chronologically.

Photographs series

This series contains one photograph of Angel’s artwork, two publicity shots of Angel, photographs of The Unveiling production, and photographs of two sesshin, one led by Kyozan Joshu Sasaki (1907–2014). The photo of Angel’s artwork was found loose with his sketchbooks. The publicity shots and The Unveiling production photographs were included with File 1-15 in an envelope labelled “Unveiling Photos.” The sesshin photographs were included with File 2-4 in an envelope addressed to “Toby.”

Faculty series

Series consists of biographical information about faculty members, press releases of faculty appointments, journal articles, newspaper clippings, interdepartmental memos, reports, lists of faculty activities, and minutes from faculty meetings and retreats.

Professional Association series

Series consists of various reports, correspondence, memos, minutes and publicity releases relating to SLAIS' involvement with diverse professional library and archives associations in British Columbia and North America. Additional information about the School's participation in planning and organizing continuing education workshops for professional librarians can be found in the Committee Series under the Continuing Education Committee.

Audio Tapes series

Series consists of 15 audio tapes representing nine interviews of the School's faculty members and Directors, including the widow of one of the Directors that MLIS student Maurizio Dattilo carried out and Faculty Member Judith Saltman in March 2001. These interviews were later used in their book Forty years of Library Education: the School of Library, Archival & Information Studies, University of British Columbia 1961-2001, published by the School. All interviews were recorded initially on micro cassettes. All discussions were transferred to electronic formats in July 2003. Typescript interview manuscripts are available for all but one of the interviews. Note: Audio tapes have been removed and are stored with the UBC Audio Tape Collection.

UBC Appointment

This series consists of records of Luciana’s UBC faculty appointment beginning in 1986. This includes correspondence and minutes relating to curriculum and program development, records relating to her appointments and promotions, lecture notes and course evaluations, along with photographs, planning and speeches for UBC events. This includes the lecture notes from Luciana's guest lectures to UBC leading up to her faculty appointment. Planning about the MAS curriculum and the involvement of the history department.

Committee records series

Series consists of minutes, correspondence, and reports about Grace's involvement in various Faculty of Arts, university, and non-university committees.

Correspondence series

The series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence with friends, fellow writers, publishers and organizations. A large proportion of the correspondence consists of printed emails. The emails were printed out and placed in folders by the donor. Please see the Digital Media series for further correspondence.

Research series

Series consists of documentation of some of Pulleyblank’s research activities, and includes notebooks, rubbings taken from ancient Chinese monuments, notes, and correspondence.

Personal Papers series

Series consists of textual and audiovisual materials related to Anne’s personal life and interests, including a reflection/autobiography of her life and records related to artist Margaret Peterson. Series also includes records related to the architect Daniel White, who designed a renovation to Anne and George’s house. File contains a DVD of a video-tour of their house that is narrated by Anne. A copy of the video is available online. Series also records related to the founding and maintenance of the Anne and George Piternick Research Award at UBC.
