Human Solidarity subseries

Subseries consists of drafts, essays, notes, clippings, correspondence, memos, invitations, minutes, memorandum, newspapers, agendas, pamphlets, note cards, reports, plans, and maps, relating to the Human Solidarity conference at Habitat II in Istanbul, Turkey in 1996 and the 1998 Global Meetings on Community Economic Development in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Records relating to the Habitat II conference are also found in the United Nations Works and Activities subseries.

IBEW Local 213 papers

The subseries contains materials related to the activities of IBEW Local 213 between 1949 and 1991, predominantly between1949 and the mid-1970s, including affidavits, reports, correspondence and newspapers. Documented within the subseries is the internal conflict between the IBEW’s American leadership and trade union activists within Local 213, and attempts to unite IBEW Locals in British Columbia through a provincial council. Also contains numerous issues of IBEW Local 213’s newspaper, the 213 Live Wire, between the mid-1950s and mid-1970s, grievance reports and ephemera from the 100th anniversary of the first annual convention of the IBEW of America, celebrated in 1991.

Subseries consists of records documenting Belshaw's involvement with the International Federation of Scientific Editors Associations (IFSEA).

In the RED/ In the BLACK

With Victoria Kirby, Anna Banana created and performed “In the RED” for InterDADA ’84, a large gathering of neo-dadaists in San Francisco, and at Humbolt University in 1985. “In The BLACK” arose from this performance and was performed later on. These were scripted stage performances by Anna Banana and Victoria Kirby, that explored colour. Banana called the interDADA ’84 performance “the most DADA performance I’ve ever given in my career” in her “Excerpts From a Mail Artist’s Diary” for Lumholt Mail Art Archive.

This subseries consists of documents relating to these performances, including press, scripts, promotional materials, and various drafts and cue sheets.

Income Tax & Charitable Gaming

Sub-series contains financial records related to tax returns and the society‟s status as a charitable organization including charitable receipts, income tax material, GST/HST returns, registered charity information returns, and applications for direct charitable access funding. Invoices, copies of outgoing cheques, bank statements and expense lists for the society‟s Gaming Account are included in this series.

Sub-series consists of correspondence of a personal and a business nature, and includes letters received by Belcher from Buxendale, Tatham, Upton & Johnson, A.W. King, and M. Wilson.

Sub-series consists of the incoming correspondence of Sir Joseph William Trutch. Correspondence is mainly from family members, including Charlotte H. Trutch, Caroline Agnes Trutch, William Pinder, and Emily White.

Sub-series consists of correspondence received by Belcher while in the South Pacific on a voyage of the HMS Sulpher, 1837-1840, and letters received from his brother, Alexander Brymer, in 1844 and 1845, during Belcher’s command of the HMS Samarang.

Incorporation Records and Directors' Reports

Sub-series consists of early records ofthe British Columbia Packers' Association, including a proposal to create the Association written by Henry Doyle in February, 1922, as well as the Association's Certificate of Incorporation, and Directors' reports for 1904 to 1907.

Indo-Chinese refugees.

Sub-series documents various projects having to do with Indo-Chinese refugees. Project files contain correspondence, requests for assistance, reports, statements regarding finances, and photographs.

Infant Mortality Project subseries

Subseries consists of research notes and annotated German-Language articles on Infant Mortality between 1880 and 1940. The Infant Mortality Project looked at the changing medical understanding of infant mortality before WWI. Ward pursued a professional and personal interest in this project, but it did not reach the publication stage.

Inferior Court of Civil Justice

In response to a growing number of petty claims in Victoria in the newly established colony of Vancouver‟s Island, Governor James Douglas established the Inferior Court of Civil Justice (later changed to the Supreme Court of Civil Justice in 1860) in 1857.
This series is composed of one-hundred and sixty-eight case files comprised of three hundred and eighty-three documents pertaining to small claims suits in Victoria between 1858 and 1866.

Inkameep/Osoyoos Indian Band collection

The Okanagan Syilx People have lived in the lands (Osoyoos, Oliver) stewarded by the Osoyoos Indian Band since time immemorial, well before the onset of European settlement in the region. Today the Band is a member of the Okanagan Nation Alliance. Consists primarily of photographs and associated interpretive notes, captions, and other materials.

Institute of Pacific Relations subseries

The correspondence sub-series consists of letters and financial statements documenting the printing and distribution of works before the establishment of UBC Press, primarily by the Institute of Pacific Relations. The records overlap the tenure of Tony Blicq as Executive Director.

Internal Communications

Sub-series consists of communication records that do not appear to have been shared with the public outside the National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC) at the time of their creation; the sub-series reflects the internal activities of the NAJC. Records include an extensive amount of correspondence (which includes interoffice correspondence, correspondence between NAJC members and members of the Canadian government, correspondence between different chapters of the NAJC, and correspondence between the NAJC and various other individuals) on topics such as the redress campaign, the success of achieving settlement, financial operations, implementing compensations after settlement, information and updates on various meetings, conferences and events, the passing of motions, contract proposals, collaboration with and support of other groups (such as the Indigenous peoples of North America), the Nikkei Voice, funds, and other topics. Records also include cards, reports, newsletters, faxes, memos, printed emails, and letter files.

International Art Post

Subseries documents International Art Post, an artistamp publication. Anna Banana published International Art Post (IAP) from the late 1980s to the early 2010s. The International Art Post was made up of periodically published artistamp editions, which were funded by contributing artists. Artists would provide Banana with small scale artworks to be transferred in full colour to perforated gum-paper. These stamps were then given back to the artists for their own use. Files contain predominantly artistamps, but also include advertising materials and preparatory documentation and sketches.

International History of Nursing Conference

The International History of Nursing Conference was co-sponsored by the Canadian Association for the History of Nursing and the B.C.History of Nursing Group. The conference was held June 12-15, 1997 in Vancouver at St. Paul’s Hospital. Both sponsoring groups aim to discover, disseminate, and preserve nursing history in Canada and British Columbia. The conference was held just prior to the meeting of the International Council of Nurses 21st Quadrennial Congress.

The conference attracted 144 people from 18 countries. Sixty papers were presented on topics including the impact of the World Wars on nursing in Canada, the U.S., Poland, Slovenia, and Germany; religious traditions in nursing; black nurses’ struggles; the impact of traditional Chinese medicine on nursing in China; epidemics; psychiatric nursing development; nursing education; and Florence Nightingale.

Subsubseries consists of delegate packages, schedules, presentations and other related materials. A commemorative scrapbook with 53 photographs is also included, and one wall hanging.

International Planned Parenthood Foundation

Sub-series reflects Mary Bishop’s involvement with the International Planned Parenthood Foundation. Bishop was appointed to a Laws and Policy Panel by the Western Hemisphere Board of the International Planned Parenthood, and served as a representative in at least five international conferences between 1976–1984.

Records in this sub-series include reports, policy documents, and other grey literature on family planning topics; newsletters; draft writing and speeches; correspondence; and newspaper clippings.

Subseries consists of documents related to Reid, Collins and Associates work in Pakistan, China, Indonesia, and Brazil.

Interviews

Sub-series reflects a set of interviews conducted by Mary Bishop in the late 1970s relating to her long-term project of documenting the history of the birth control movement in Canada between 1920 and 1980. Bishop interviewed several individuals with lived experience connected to this history, including physicians; religious leaders; and women and couples who spoke about their experiences seeking reproductive healthcare. The interviews were funded by a grant from the Explorations Programme supplied by the Canada Council.

Records in this sub-series include interview transcripts; typed and handwritten notes; interview releases; accompanying documentation on the history of birth control and dissemination of information about family planning; and one photograph.
