Fonds consists mainly of correspondence between Ellen Jaffe and Jane Rule, written between 1996 and 2001. The first series follows a letter Jaffe wrote to Rule in appreciation of the TVO film Fiction and Other Truths about her life and work. The rest of the letters deal with Jaffe asking to use quotes from the film in her book Writing Your Way and her visiting Rule on Galiano Island in 2001 to give her a copy of the book. The folder also includes a copy of Jaffe’s book, with the quotes from Jane Rule bookmarked.

The fonds consists of textual records (including correspondence, reports, minutes and course materials), published materials, and photographs documenting the life and career of Alden Barss. The records relate to the teaching of horticulture; the development of the Department of Horticulture, the Faculty of Agriculture, and the University; Barss' involvement with the Anglican Theological College and the Anglican Church; his professional career; and his personal life. Some records were collected and arranged by Barss in the course of writing a history of the Department of Horticulture.

It also includes records associated with the preparation and execution of the Medical Education survey (1946), correspondence and reports relating to the Department of Bacteriology and Preventive Medicine (1951-1955), and a history of the UBC Medical School (1976). Records of the Royal Society of Canada comprise the second series. A large portion of this material reflects the efforts of the Society to participate in the formulation and implementation of a national science policy beginning from the mid-1960s through to the early 1970s.

The fonds includes a set of Black's diaries for the period between 1920 and 1942 as well as extensive correspondence from Black to her family, particularly while abroad (1937-38, 1953, and 1958-59).

Scarfe, Neville Vincent
The fonds consists of correspondence, speeches, scrapbooks and photographs pertaining to Hunter Lewis and other members of his family including Stella Lewis (wife), Bertha Lewis (mother) and Dr. George Albert McGuire (father-in-law) who served as a Conservative MLA for Vancouver about the time of World War I. The fonds also includes four Bertha Lewis' diaries (1934-1957). Included in this family material is a large assortment of records from the Federation of Canadian Artists, which Hunter Lewis collected in the 1940s and early 1950s.

It includes material from his student days, his years at Eldorado Gold Mines, and his years as a professor at the University of British Columbia. The fonds includes photographs reflecting the development of mining equipment and technology. In particular, the numerous photographs from Howard's Eldorado days (1942-1946) depict not only mining operations but also capture aspects of social life in Port Radium, a remote community near the Arctic Circle.

Fonds consists of photocopies of the wills of Emily Carr (1945) and Ira Dilworth (1954), regarding the ownership of Carr's copyright. The fonds also includes correspondence (1967-1983) from artist Gordon Smith addressed to John Parnall and his family, as well as printed material regarding Smith.
