Photographs series

The series consists of photographs of Frank F. Wesbrook, family members, and other associates. They include both black and white prints and negatives of various dimensions.

Subject Files series

Series consists of correspondence and reports regarding the general administration of Pacific Affairs. Also included are permissions to re-print Pacific Affairs articles in other publications and some articles about the history of the Institute of Pacific Relations written by William Holland and others.

Audio Tape series

Series consists of 50 audio tapes representing forty-one interviews conducted by Ruth Sandwell with thirty-eight individuals between April and August of 1999. Please see the finding aid for an inventory of the audio tapes.

Essays and Articles series

The series consists of correspondence, notes and drafts relating to several of New's articles, including his article in volume 3 of The History of the Book in Canada, “Literature in English” in The Canadian Encyclopedia and “The Short Story in Canada.”

Reference Books series

The series consists of correspondence, manuscripts, drafts, notes, lists, contributor forms and printed material related to reference books such as guides and bibliographies authored by New. Works represented include Malcolm Lowry: A Reference Guide (1978), select essays in the Dictionary of Literary Biography (1986-2002), Encyclopedia of Literature in Canada (2002), and Janet Frame: An Enumerative Bibliography to 1990.

Auto/biographical Writing series

The series consists of manuscripts, correspondence, organization notes, and records related to works that contain fragments of auto/biographical writing authored by New. Works represented in this series include “Glimpses: Shadow, Pool” in Celebrating the Life and Work of Janet Frame (1994) and “Writing Here” in BC Studies (2005).

Unpublished Works series

The series consists of manuscripts, correspondence, organization notes, and records related to works that have not yet been published. Works represented in this series include Cedar box Camera, Body Language, “After Thoughts,” “Tourist Overboard,” “The B-Lock,” Green Man, Catapult and Ketchup, Ordinary Ghosts, “The Red-Letter Rainbow,” and The Room with a View.

Correspondence series

The series consists of correspondence generated by New in his position as professor of English at UBC and as Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The correspondence relates to various subjects, including New's involvement in various professional organizations, requests for references, publishing firms, and correspondence with other academics that New met while attending conferences. Includes general correspondence files, and correspondence files are arranged topically by New with mixed subject file material.

Feature films series

Series consists of records about films created, proposed, and/or directed by Kendall. Scripts, revisions, notes, correspondence, proposals, applications, research material, reports, production boards and schedules, audiotapes, video cassettes, film reels, interpositive film transfers, and textless backgrounds. Films include Boots (n.d.), Ice (1973), Con Game (1976), Tala (1976), Bearhunt (1978), Cadillac Girls (1993), Love and Death on Long Island (1996), Kayla (1999), Mr. Rice's Secret (Exhuming Mr. Rice) (2000), and incomplete projects Streetkids (ca. 1983), Diamond Knight (1988), Hockey Bat Harris (1989), FBI: Negotiator (2005), and The Great Goose Caper (2006).

Formation and Early History of CSECS series

Series consists of a summary of minutes of a meeting held at Victoria College, University of Toronto (6 May 1970) to consider establishing a society for the advancement of 18th-century studies in Canada. It also includes minutes of meetings and correspondence created in the first year of CSECS's existence on its creation, organization and funding options. Finally, it includes draft copies of constitutions and minutes of meetings created during the first three years.

Urban Planning series

Series consists of records dealing with urban planning issues in the Greater Vancouver area, particularly transportation and the redevelopment of False Creek. It includes reports, correspondence, minutes, and published materials. It also contains photographs of architects' models for False Creek and Granville Island in files 1-6. The series is arranged in the sub-series False Creek, Transportation, and General.

Colbeck Collection series

Series documents the acquisition and cataloguing of the Norman Colbeck collection and contains a photocopy of the catalogue's original manuscript, correspondence, and minutes of the Colbeck Catalogue Committee. Also included is some of Colbeck's correspondence that had come into Fredeman's possession.

Digital Media series

Includes papers and emails exchanged between James Birren and James E. Thornton and other miscellaneous documents. Please ask archives staff regarding access to digital copies.

Musically Speaking Scripts series

Series consists of scripts written by Harry Adaskin for his Musically Speaking CBC radio programme. Also included is the script for Adaskin's first introduction to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's CP Air Concerts series, also called Musically Speaking from 1976. Some scripts are hand-written, most are typed some are also annotated. Includes some carbon copies.

New York Philharmonic Broadcasts series

Series consists of scripts written by Harry Adaskin for his intermission commentaries for Sunday afternoon broadcasts by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Some scripts are handwritten; others are typed.

Tuesday Night Scripts series

Series consists of scripts written by Harry Adaskin for his Tuesday Night CBC radio programme. Recordings of some of these commentaries are in the Tuesday Night audio tapes sub-series. Some scripts are hand-written, others are typed.

Miscellaneous Writings series

Series consists of essays, articles, lectures, and scripts written by Harry Adaskin. Some may be scripts from his radio broadcasts but are unidentified as such. Most are hand-written, and some are typed.

Research Material - Kerala series

Series consists of Gough's field notes of her Ph.D. fieldwork in Kerala, India, 1947-1949, her return in 1964, and related notes and other manuscript material.

Department of History series

Series consists of minutes, reports, teaching assignments, and statistics about the administration of the Department of History and its various committees. In addition, the series includes three subseries Minutes, Committees, and Miscellaneous Subjects.

Speeches series

Series consists of the text of speeches given by Harnetty on CBC's "B.C. Commentary," CBC National Network Broadcasts, and CTV Television Broadcasts.

Financial series

Series consists of financial records from the Pacific Council and the AIPR and includes auditor's reports, financial statements, worksheets, inventories, vouchers and deposits, withholding tax records, payroll registers, and correspondence.

IPR Conferences series

Series consists of records documenting I.P.R. and AIPR conferences and includes correspondence, reports, published materials, an album containing photographs, and individual photographs. The images are of various individuals and groups who attended I.P.R. conferences and three portraits of Edward C. Carter, the first secretary-general of I.P.R. The series is arranged in the following sub-series: Conference Papers, Minutes and Reports, and Photographs.

Photographs

The series consists of slide transparencies from ca. 1930 through 1992, depicting Princeton and environs, including Allenby, Ashnola, Tulameen, Hedley, and Coquihalla. Some depictions of mines, or the areas of mining activities, including Nickel Plate, Coalmont, and Brenda. Featuring predominant coverage of the outdoors, the series includes photographs of many area mountains, creeks, and lakes. Scenes of recreation, including fairs, parades, and rodeos are also available. These slides are mainly attributed to Roy Thomas.

Prints feature photographs of members of the Allison family, with item-level descriptions under development.

Correspondence

The series consists predominantly of postcards and greeting cards, with one file of letters to the editor by Roy Thomas. Some items are restricted due to the presence of personal information.

Journals and writings

The series consists of Journals and personal writings based on practical, historical, and political concerns.

Textual records

Series is divided into three subseries: Correspondence; Financial records; and Manuscripts, biographical information, and other textual materials. Records include textual records such as business and personal correspondence (including fan mail); financial records and receipts; drafts of writing related to birds and Lansdowne's personal history; and other ephemera.

Multimedia series

Series consists of floppy disks and a USB drive containing drafts, correspondence, business, etc. Files from USB drive and floppy disks have been migrated to University Archives digital storage and can be made available to researchers. A handful of floppy disk files could not be read and successfully migrated off the media. The digital files are from the late 90’s and range in format from #2 and #3 type files (from ViaVoice by IBM) to WPF files (WordPerfect software). Users may need to download specialized software to access older file formats. Floppy labels mention documents from 1986 to 2009.

Notebooks series

Series consists of notebooks filled with drawings, diagrams, and written notes. These volumes and the information included in them arguably constitute the documentary core of Geoffrey Smedley’s work. They are organized into three sub-series. Numbered Notebooks consists of 35 sequentially-numbered volumes, dated 1964-1988, with notes and drawings on various topics and projects. “Descartes’ Clown” Notebooks consists of 12 volumes, sequentially numbered in Roman numerals, documenting Smedley’s Descartes’ Clown project. Other Notebooks brings together the remainder of Smedley’s notebooks covering various topics and projects.
Where the volumes are numbered, they are arranged sequentially; otherwise, they are arranged in chronological order based on dated notebook entries.

Works series

Series consists of documentation of Smedley’s sculptures and other artistic creations and includes written and typed notes and manuscripts, drawings and sketches, photographs, and various digital media. The series is primarily organized into sub-series: Notes and Research Materials, Rowingbridge, Descartes’ Clown, Magneto, Dissections, Piero della Francesca, Cloud of Numbers, Other Works, and Oversized Materials.

The sub-series are based primarily on Smedley’s works, except where the materials refer to more than one work or are more general. Within each subseries, the materials are arranged in chronological order.

Grants and Awards series

Series consists of materials documenting various grant programmes for which Smedley was eligible and includes correspondence and documentation for granting agencies.

The files are arranged in chronological order.

Aboriginal Affairs and History series

This series consists of all materials Dr. Tester collected related to Aboriginal communities, comprising two series that Tester had labelled as “Aboriginal Affairs – Historical” and “Aboriginal History Documents.”
Some material in this series is related to Aboriginal child welfare but has been kept separate from the Aboriginal Child Welfare series due to how the creator filed it.

Photographs series

Series consists mainly of photographs of John Norris, Barbara Norris, and other family members. Several photos relate to images used by Norris during lectures or in scholarly articles. Photographs are arranged in chronological order.

Events series

The series consists of materials relating to Joy Coghill’s performances as an actor, director, producer and artistic director.

Miscellaneous series

The series consists of manuscripts, notes, newspaper and magazine clippings, pamphlets, and other textual materials relating to Coghill's writing, teaching, and other activities. Also included are artifacts relating to Coghill's performances and professional and personal life.

Song Of This Place series

Series consists of manuscript materials documenting the development of Coghill's play Song Of This Place, based on the life of Emily Carr, and including early drafts of scripts, notes, correspondence, brochures and other published materials, Actors' Equity agreements, and financial records documenting ticket sales and sponsorships.
