1980 Accession subseries

The subseries consists of the original blueprint, white print or linen architectural drawings, photographs of buildings at various stages of construction, and related correspondence, specifications and reports. In addition, the records have been organized into the following tertiary series: UBC Buildings, Reports, Correspondence, Specifications, Photographs and Architectural Drawings.

1988 Accession subseries

The subseries consists of minutes of committee meetings and correspondence; correspondence between the architectural firm and construction companies, engineers and contractors, laboratories for inspecting and testing buildings and the Provincial Government in Victoria; and forms of tender, reports, memoranda, quotations, agreements, specifications, certificates of insurance and schedules of hardware. There are also original architectural drawings included in the files, most of which are white prints, blueprints and diazos sent to Thompson, Berwick, Pratt & Partners by engineers. It is arranged into the tertiary series UBC Buildings, Federal Government Buildings at UBC, Educational and Commercial Buildings, and UBC Campus Development.

1990 Accession subseries

All drawings pertain to building projects completed at UBC, with only a couple of exceptions at the end of this section. Most of the drawings in this accession are working drawings, with some preliminary and perspective drawings appearing in the files. In addition, there are some working drawings for several unbuilt UBC projects. The same building sub-contractors were used consistently throughout TBP&P's corporate life: D.W. Thomson, Mechanical Engineering; Simpson & MacGregor, Electrical Engineering; O. Safir, Structural engineering. In the 1970s, this group became the "Partners" when the corporate title changed for the last time [see: Administrative History in the full file list]. Some projects between 1923 and 1974 were commissioned by the federal or provincial government rather than the university.

Academic Teaching Career subseries

Subseries consists of correspondence, applications, curriculum vitae, notes and clippings on Messenger's teaching career with the UBC English Department, including tributes given at his memorial service.

ADED Courses subseries

Subseries consists of course outlines, reports, planning, evaluations and notes regarding specific courses taught at the University of British Columbia.

ADED Financial subseries

Subseries consist of ledgers, cheques, tax information and memos relating to financial aspects of teaching and researching Adult Education.

ADED UBC subseries

Subseries consists of correspondence, memos and reports relating to Griffith's career at the University of British Columbia.

Administrative Records subseries

Subseries consists of correspondence, position guides, functional programs, policy documents, phone lists, meeting minutes, monthly reports and statistics, research materials, clippings, and other records relating to the administration and operation of the Nurse-Midwifery Service at Grace Hospital.

Administrative subseries

Subseries consists of correspondence, CVs, and reports relating to the administration of the Institute, its programs and its personnel.

A.M. Klein subseries

Subseries consists of items related to A.M. Klein and Steinberg’s correspondence, research and publications about him. Materials include correspondence, notes, annotated photocopies of Klein’s works, drafts, and manuscripts, including materials on microfilm.

Americas subseries

Photographic prints, slides, maps, and documentation depicting objects and sites related to ancient Andean societies. Includes some materials regarding North America, mainly focused on cultures of the Northwest Coast.

APEC Alert and Jonathan Oppenheim Documents subseries

The subseries consists of materials created and disseminated by APEC Alert before the APEC summit and in its aftermath and materials collected and created by Jonathan Oppenheim. It consists of posters, pamphlets, and ephemera produced by APEC Alert, information about APEC and the leaders of the APEC countries; News Releases about the PCC and a letter written to UBC faculty. In addition, it includes documents composed by Oppenheim and other APEC Alert members in their attempts to subpoena then Prime Minister Jean Chretien to appear at the RCMP PCC.

APEC Exhibits and Related Documents subseries

The subseries consists of documents compiled by various government agencies and civilian witnesses for exhibit during the RCMP Public Complaints Commission. The exhibits consist of correspondence, witness statements, police statements, photographs and videotapes and other materials considered pertinent for inclusion in the PCC. The series also includes the Commission's Interim Report, published in July 2001. The exhibits are arranged in alpha-numeric order where applicable and then by creating agency or individual.

APEC RCMP PCC Exhibits subseries

The subseries consists of documents compiled by various government agencies and civilian witnesses for exhibit during the RCMP Public Complaints Commission. The exhibits consist of correspondence, witness statements, police statements, photographs and videotapes and other materials considered pertinent for inclusion. The exhibits are arranged in alpha-numeric order where applicable and then maintained by the donor.

Apple Classroom of Tomorrow subseries

Subseries consists of files from Robert Tierney’s research on the "Apple Classroom of Tomorrow" at West High School in Columbus, Ohio. This research preceded Tierney’s appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Education. It includes general information, publications, student files and classroom photographs.

Asia Institute of Technology subseries

Subseries consists of drafts, essays, notes, clippings, correspondence, memos, invitations, minutes, memorandum, newspapers, agendas, pamphlets, note cards, reports, plans, and maps, relating to H. Peter Oberlander’s professional contribution to the Asia Institute of Technology.

Asia Pacific subseries

Subseries consists of correspondence, minutes, memoranda and reports accumulated by Carney in her work with the Asia Pacific Initiative Advisory Committee and the Asia Pacific Foundation. Subseries also contains one folder of correspondence and brochures from Carney's involvement in the Abbotsford Airshow.

Atlantic Accord subseries

Subseries consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings and a diary relating to the signing of the Atlantic Accord. The correspondence includes dialogue between Minister Carney and Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, and Newfoundland’s Minister of Energy William Marshall. The sub-series also consists of a copy of the Atlantic Accord signed by Carney, Mulroney, Premier Brian Peckford, John Crosbie, Bill Marshall and others.

Babel subseries

Babel was a newsletter created and circulated within the graduate student community and contains written contributions in prose, poetry, and drawings. Sub-series consists of six editions of the newsletter, filed chronologically from September 1998 to March 1999.

Banff, Alberta Planning and Development subseries

Subseries consists of drafts, essays, notes, clippings, correspondence, memos, invitations, minutes, memorandum, newspapers, agendas, pamphlets, note cards, reports, plans, and maps, relating to H. Peter Oberlander’s professional work with Banff, Alberta Planning and Development.

BC Place Citizen’s Advisory Committee

Subseries consists of drafts, essays, notes, clippings, correspondence, memos, invitations, minutes, memorandum, newspapers, agendas, pamphlets, note cards, reports, plans, and maps, relating to H. Peter Oberlander’s professional contribution to the BC Place Citizen’s Advisory committee.

Bill C.Y. Li subseries

As the General Manager of the UBC Press from the early 1970s to 1990, Bill C.Y. Li's initial responsibilities for the production process were eventually superseded by competencies in the financial and business-oriented offices of the UBC Press.

Correspondence sub-series consists of drafts of letters and memorandum regarding departmental communication, preparation memos for meetings and seminars, book construction, royalty payments, sales reports, financial support, and topics about the production and layout of material to be published.

Biographies sub-series

This series consists of research, photographs, curriculum vitae, and correspondence on individuals considered for the Woodward Memorial Room memorials.

Birth Weight Project subseries

Subseries consists of records on the Birth Weight Project. Ward researched tax assessment rolls, ledgers, in-patient and out-patient records, etc., for the following cities: Boston, Dublin, Edinburgh, Vienna, and Montreal. Separate studies were also conducted on the cities of Utrecht and Bologna. Ward’s research on the Birth/Newborn Weight Project was the foundation for the book, Birth Weight and Economic Growth: Women’s Living Standards in the Industrializing West. The code book for the Utrecht birth weight database (file 7-5a) was added in December 2014. NOTE: The Birth Weight Project records on Bologna are expected in a future accrual.

Board Games subseries

Subseries consists of game boards and draft game boards for three board games: "Cheat,"; "Hugger-Mugger," and an untitled geographic board game. The game boards are in oversize boxes.

Born-digital Materials subseries

Materials on digital media are currently being reviewed, and further information is pending. Subseries include both documents and photographs. Four floppy discs may also be found in the Lectures, Conferences and Writings subseries.

British Columbia focus subseries

Subseries contains original research/data, correspondence and annotated reference materials related to various projects focused in BC. Topics include representation of First Nations in BC and the National Film Board, recreation facilities on the North Shore, restaurants in Greater Vancouver, and transit.

Budget subseries

Subseries consists of reports, financial documents, memorandum, correspondence, and notes regarding the budget and funding of the Division of Industrial Education. The sub-series has been re-organized in chronological order.

Campaign and Promotions subseries

This subseries consists of letters and correspondence with various governments and organizations in pursuit of funding and support for the Kaon Factory. It also contains correspondence in favour of the accelerator, pamphlets and community outreach records, news clippings and other materials produced in the course of trying to promote, fund, and actualize the accelerator.

Canada U.S. Free Trade Agreement subseries

Subseries consist of diaries, personal notes, correspondence, speeches, newspaper clippings, and videos. The records document Minister Carny’s role in the evolution of the FTA. The subseries includes a copy of the Canada U.S. Free Trade Agreement signed by Pat Carney. The correspondence retained in this subseries contains a dialogue between Minister Carney, Simon Reisman, Canada’s chief FTA negotiator, Joe Clark, Minister of External Affairs, Michael Wilson, Minister of Finance, and Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. In addition, the subseries includes a box of materials, a purse, a baby sleeper, a frozen fish box etc., used by Carney while touring the country to promote the FTA. Additional records document FTA and NAFTA events, for example, the 1990 Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations - which occurred after Carney’s tenure as Minister of International Trade. The videos, which can be located in the University Archives Audio-Visual collection, are of nightly television news coverage of the FTA and presentations by Carney on the Agreement. The subseries also includes records from the tenth anniversary of the FTA and consists of the loss and rediscovery of Pat Carney’s documents donated to the National Archives of Canada.
