Views of British Columbia & Alaska

A book of printed drawings, by an unknown artist, of British Columbia and Alaska, published by M.W. Waitt & Co. booksellers in Victoria B.C. The book has a stylized red cover, and the spine is basically completely detached; the images are in decent shape, but the pages are coming apart at the seams.

[Maud Bauer Photo Album]

A photo album with hand-written notes documenting the life and travel of Maud Bauer of Vancouver; in particular a trip with her Mother in 1903. The photos, housed in a small notebook, are well-preserved and almost all have captions including personal names, and city populations. See also UL_1015 for photos and diary of her husband William A. Bauer concerning a trip he took to Malaysia and Singapore.

[Istanbul Photo Album 2]

An album of photographs of Istanbul, likely images purchased as souvenirs of a trip. See also UL_1734_03 for snapshots believed to be from the same trip. Both albums come from the estate of one Mr. Abramson, a former Consul General of the United States to Canada. There are images from the around the city, from the interior of what is believed to be the Istanbul Archaeology Museum, and one, incongruously, of the Great Wall of China. Some of the images come with type-written captions or information clipped from newspapers or pamphlets. The album and most of the photos are in good condition. Some of the typed captions in the album appear to be from a published guide to Constantinople.

[Barkerville & BC Photographs]

Album likely assembled at a later date by a dealer, however many are related to Barkerville, British Columbia, and a fire that destroyed the town in September of 1868. There are also other assorted images including portraits of prominent British Columbians such as James Douglas, and scenes in other small towns throughout the province. Most of the photographs are reproductions from images at the B.C. Provincial Archives and date from 1857 to 1930.
