The collection consists of records documenting John MacDermot’s proposed History of Medicine in British Columbia, and includes correspondence, written notes, minutes, clippings, completed survey forms, and written and typed manuscripts.

These records include minutes, correspondence, course outlines and related materials, and reports. The collection consists of materials acquired by Special Collections and the University Archives and maintained for purposes of historical research. It includes reports, correspondence, committee minutes, course materials, architectural and other drawings, newspaper and magazine clippings, press releases, posters, brochures, and other published materials. The materials are arranged alphabetically by subject or name (e.g. organisations, University departments, events, buildings/places, and individuals).

The fonds consists of records documenting the functions, activities, and programmes of the UBC Department of Medicine and its constituent divisions. Also, because of the close working relationship between the Department and the Vancouver Hospital & Health Sciences Centre Department of Medicine -- the two were led by the same department head for much of the 1990s -- some VHHSC records were kept with the UBC files in the department offices; they remained interfiled when the records were transferred to the University Archives. The records include correspondence, reports, minutes, and published materials.
