The sub-series is divided into 13 files: 9 relating to genealogy, one file of correspondence with another family member, one file of photographs, one file of newspaper clippings relating to his ancestors, and one file of research on the town of Moyie. Types of records include marriage and death certificates, descendent charts, correspondence, and other textual materials, as well as photographs, both historical childhood photographs and those taken during the course of Burch’s research, such as those of ancestral gravesites.

The sub-series is divided into 3 files: Public schooling, Reunions, and Photographs. The Reunion file also contains several photographs. Among the textual records are school report cards from 1930 till 1936, a high school entrance certificate, university entrance examination certificates, a high school graduation certificate, and newsletter and correspondence regarding high school reunions. The photographs are reflective of Burch’s extra-curricular activities through boyhood and his teenaged years.

Sub-series documents Burch’s time serving in the Navy from 1943 until his time of discharge in October 1945. This includes both time spent in training, in Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax and Cornwallis, as well as on board the HMCS Eyebright. Sub- series consists of one file, made up largely of photographs but also including Burch’s Certificate of Discharge, War Service Badge certificate, and a newspaper clipping regarding the Battle of the Atlantic.

Series documents Burch’s time at the University of British Columbia, where he studied forest engineering, and his summer employment with the B.C. Forest Branch. The series consists of one file, made up entirely of photographs. Most of the photographs are of the summer employment, but also includes a composite photograph of the Gamma Omicron of Beta Theta Pi of 1947-1948, a photograph of the UBC Forestry faculty of 1946, and a photograph of the Forestry Engineering class of 1948.

Sub-series reflects Burch’s career with British Columbia Forest Products and other significant events during that time, such as his wedding, tours, trips, retirement, and the dedication of the Gerry Burch Working Forest. Several files relate to other foresters and their careers, which arrived from Burch in several accruals. After his retirement from B.C. Forest Products, Burch remained active in the forestry sphere as a consultant. Documents in this sub-series reflect his continued interest in forestry related issues. The sub-series consists of two files, containing documents such as correspondence, ephemera, newsletters, and newspaper clippings. The division between the files is based on Burch’s own classification of the items as “G” or “H.”

This subseries contains photographs and brief biographical portraits of NDP candidates, used prior to and during election campaigns. In most cases, after nomination, the Provincial Secretary would request photographs and a brief biography for use in the creation of promotional materials and press releases. These would often be updated before each election period. In some cases a standard form was used, which the candidate would fill out; in others, the candidate submitted their own documents. Records include those of many former Party leaders, including David Barrett, Ujjal Dosanjh, Michael Harcourt, Robert Skelly, and Robert Strachan. The subseries appears to have been added to by multiple Provincial Secretaries, and though different naming conventions were followed, a general alphabetic order was maintained.

Files in this subseries include items such as textual records, drafts, clippings, printed materials, photographs and related media.
