Coupland and McCarthy event invitation in Toronto

Contains a print-out of an event invitation hosted by Knopf Canada: "A conversation between Tom McCarthy and Doug Coupland about books, art and the meaning of it all", held October 30th, 2010 at the Rooster Cafe in Toronto.

Fan correspondence and related material

This series consists primarily of mail, artwork and objects received by Coupland from fans. Also included in this series are various sketches and drawings created by fans and collected by Coupland during book tour events. After approximately the year 2000, most of Coupland’s fan mail began to arrive digitally, and is therefore not included with the first accrual of his fonds.

Also included in this series are records relating to the academic study of Douglas Coupland's work by others, including correspondence with students and copies of dissertations and theses.

Digital Orca maquette

This file contains a maquette version of the Digital Orca sculpture created by Coupland. Of particular interest is the variance in the base, as it was altered in the final creation because of engineering logistics and the difference in colour of the maquette.

Orca model

This item is a maquette version of the Digital Orca sculpture created by Coupland and installed at Jack Poole Plaza in 2010.

Two pieces of art-related correspondence

Contains a hand-annotated announcement from ArtGems Toronto on changes to the organization, and a handwritten letter from the Elliott Louis Gallery in Vancouver advising Coupland that a piece of art he purchased is wrapped and available for pick up.

Digital Orca photo, Globe and Mail, July 27, 2010

Clipping from page A6 of the Globe and Mail, Tuesday July 27, 2010 with a large photograph of the Digital Orca sculpture. The caption beneath the photo reads: "Tourists converge on the Digital Orca outside Vancouver's Convention Centre Monday. The pixilated sculpture created by artist Douglas Coupland breaks down a three-dimensional Orca whale into cubic pixels."
