Arts department records series

Series consists of correspondence, reports, minutes, and other textual records relating to Wynn's interaction with various departments in the Faculty of Arts and his involvement in departmental issues and concerns.

Committee records series

Series consists of minutes, correspondence, and reports related to Wynn's participation in various university and external committees.

Series consists of correspondence, minutes, reports, newsletters relating to Wynn's functions and activities within the Faculty of Arts. Includes records about his role in the development of Faculty policies and procedures, courses, programs, and events, as well as his participation in Faculty meetings.

Ritsumeikan records series

Series consists of correspondence, reports, minutes, financial records, brochures, and other textual records about developing an exchange program with Ritsumeikan University in Japan and Wynn's involvement with the program.

This series consists of materials related to the functions and operations of the department. It consists of the following subseries: General Files, Department and Student Finances, Calendar, Admissions, AWARDS/Scholarships, Procedures, Student Academic Services, Promotion and Recruiting, Research, Reorganization, Conferences and Retreats, Freedom of information, and Visitors. This series was arranged numerically, except when some types of files only existed in the alphabetic system.

Correspondence series

This series consists of correspondence between various individuals, offices, and programs, primarily inter-University. It has the following subseries: Registrars/Depts./Committees, Deans, President’s Office, and Other. This series is arranged alphabetically.

External Relations series

This series consists of correspondence, reports, and related materials about relationships the School of Graduate Studies, at large, or the Dean, specifically, had with agencies, associations, schools, and other entities outside of UBC. It consists of the following subseries: Associations (alphabetical), External Organizations (numeric), Granting Agencies (alphabetical), and Other Agencies (alphabetic). This series has a mixture of arrangement systems. Each sub-series is noted with the arrangement used.

Finance and Administration series

Series consists of correspondence, reports, memoranda, policy and working papers, teaching assignments, agenda and minutes and registration materials about the Faculty Administrator's Office. Materials were maintained by the Faculty Administrator's Office, which provides the Dean with administrative assistance and acts as the faculty's financial officer. Responsibilities include student registration, timetabling, exam scheduling, budget preparation, financial management, distribution of committee agenda and minutes and classroom allocation.

Publications series

Series consists of issues of the Faculty of Law Handbook, the "Legal Who" student directory, and the Faculty of Law Yearbook.

Faculty of Medicine fonds

The fonds of the Faculty of Medicine includes records which document the administrative and operational activities, actions and interests of the Faculty. Such records pertain to the establishment and organization of the Faculty; the development and actions of the Facultys governing bodies and committees; the planning, development and construction of various Faculty buildings such as the University Hospital, the I.R.C. Centre, the Basic Medical Sciences buildings and the Health Sciences Centre. These records also refer to the use of regional hospitals as clinical teaching hospitals and to relations between the Faculty and the University at large; as well as, with other university medical schools, governments, medical and related professions, associations and societies, businesses and hospitals. The records within this fonds also pertain to the Facultys receipt of gifts and donations, its departmental / divisional research endeavors and it applications for, and receipt of, awards for professional distinction. Types of material found in the Faculty of Medicine fonds include: correspondence, working papers, minutes, photographs, newspaper clippings, memorandum, agendas, studies, internal reports and reviews, applications, protocols and surveys. The series consists of photographs of the construction of the Health Science Centre, its Psychiatric Unit, the James Mather Building, and the Instruction Resources Centre. The series also includes photographs of the members of the Co-ordinating Committee.

Administration series

Series consists of correspondence, memoranda, policies, financial materials, and reports about the administration of the Institute of Industrial Relations. Series contains five subseries: General Correspondence, Supervisory Bodies, Financial Papers, Personnel, and Directors Reports subseries.

Correspondence series

Series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence created during Ormsby's communications with her mother Margaret, other family members, colleagues, students, publishers, government officials and archival institutions. The series includes several hundred incoming letters to Margaret from her mother. Because Margaret and her mother corresponded very frequently, the correspondence provides a great deal of information about life in Vernon and the Okanagan and things happening at the University of British Columbia. Unfortunately, the bulk of the incoming correspondence is not dated.

Transportation Management Research Collection

The collection consists of materials gathered by Karl Ruppenthal as course aids for subjects taught mainly at Stanford University as part of the Transportation Management Program. The bulk of the collection consists of copies of transportation industry publications, published regulatory decisions and reports and related documents, and transcripts of addresses and speeches by other individuals, along with related correspondence and newspaper and magazine clippings. There are no papers in the collection generated by Ruppenthal himself, apart from copies of letters requesting materials from corporations and regulatory bodies, and some written notes. The collection is organized in series based on the following broad subject areas: Pipelines, Civil Aeronautics Board, Ocean Transportation, Case Leads (case studies for the Stanford course Business 380), Consulting with Consultants (conference), Australian Travel Material, Emergency Board Reports, Noise and Environmental Pollution, Transportation Co-ordination and Consolidation, Transportation Economics and Regulations, Rail Mergers, Rail Transportation Labour, Skyliner (TWA employee newsletter), Roberts Bank Superport, and Air California.

B.C. Newspaper Project series

Series consists of planning documents, grant applications, financial records and correspondence associated with the B.C. Newspaper Project, a Canadian Studies research Tools grant awarded to the B.C. Libraries Association. Margaret Friesen served as Principal Co-Investigator of the project. The files include information about planning for the project prior grants from the National Library of Canada, B.C. Heritage Trust, Library Services Branch and the SSHRC grant. The project resulted in creating the "Union Catalogue of B.C. Newspapers."

Department of Asian Studies series

Series consists of minutes of departmental meetings and reports about the Department of Asian Studies administration. Series also includes words about the Institute of Asian (and Slavonic) Studies. In addition, the series contains Minutes, Reports, and Institute of Asian (and Slavonic) Studies subseries.

Miscellaneous series

Series consists of issues of the President’s Office Circulars from 1959 to 1961 and the University Gazette from 1962 to 1991. These were retained with the fonds due to notes written on and about them by Harnetty.

Correspondence series

Series consists of W.L. Holland's incoming and outgoing correspondence, arranged alphabetically by correspondent. It also contains publication records files of Holland's Asian Nationalism and the West and Far Eastern Survey. Also included is correspondence from the 1930s and 1940s that had been "lent to F.B.I. by I.P.R. and returned 1952-53".

Senate Investigation series

Series consists of records and other selected materials relating to the hearings of the McCarran Subcommittee and the Owen Lattimore trial, files used by the FBI, and reports dealing with these proceedings. Materials include clippings, magazine articles, correspondence (in particular Lattimore's Pacific Affairs correspondence and other correspondence subpoenaed as evidence), testimonials, court transcripts, and notes prepared for Lattimore by Derk Bodde

Tax Exemption Court Case series

Series consists of records relating to the court case "Institute of Pacific Relations vs the United States," a five-year fight by the I.P.R. to obtain a court ruling on its tax-exempt status as an educational body. Materials include court documents, correspondence (including subpoenaed as evidence), clippings and articles, and stenographer's minutes.

Miscellaneous series

Series consists of records and other materials that document the Institute of Pacific Relations activities, much of which was collected and brought together from both outside sources and other IPR records by William Holland to compile a history of the Institute. Also included are reference works from the IPR office. Materials include publications, clippings, minutes, reports, and correspondence and are arranged in the following sub-series: IPR History, IPR Reference Books, and Subject Files.

Wilbert MacDonald fonds

Series consists of course outlines, correspondence, and notes about lectures given by Scott at UBC and the London School of Economics. The series contains three sub-series: London School of Economics, UBC, and Extension Courses. Series is arranged by course number.

Reference Correspondence series

Series consists of correspondence relating to reference questions and related topics. They are arranged in two sub-series: Alphabetical and Subject.

Diaries and other Compilations series

Series consists of extracts from letters, manuscript notes, diaries, notebooks, and manuscripts compiled by various members of the Warren family. In addition, the series includes bound sketches by Henry Warrenne (contained within the binding is a clasp knife that belonged to Warrenne).

Family Documents series

Series consists of genealogical charts, notes, correspondence, photographs, and wills from members of the Warren family.

Collectibles series

Series consists of cigarette card and autograph albums, a box of Chinese leaf paintings, a pair of ivory blades, and publications collected by members of the Warren Family.

Manuscripts, Screenplays, Monologues series

Series consists of manuscripts, screenplays, monologues, miscellaneous writings created by Jacob Zilber. Some of the works have multiple versions and drafts created over time. Major works present in the series include materials from Sister Roxy; The Inbreaker; and Jacob Zilber’s autobiography: Boxing and Other Reflections.

Photographs series

Series consists of 36 photographs. The photographs include depictions from when Jacob Zilber was a student at the University of Wisconsin in 1948 and a trip to Wisconsin for the Kewaunee Class of 1942 reunion in 1989. Physical photographs are catalogued as part of the photograph holdings under 160.1.

Audiovisual Materials series

Series consists of reel-to-reel audio recordings, audiocassettes, and one 16 mm film. Materials include interviews, plays and other works created or collected by Jacob Zilber.
