Wilcox v. Pemberton et al

File contains: Affidavit of G. Balls. Regarding the road from Esquimalt to Victoria, erected by the government for use by the public. The stoppage of the road by obstructing the bridge with a bar across the same thereby impending the traffic along the bridge has caused much injury to the property holders on Wharf Street.

Dupuis v. Staples et al

File contains: Affidavit of E. Dupuis. Captain Staples and others, owners of the steamship Pacific, are justly and truly indebted to the Plaintiff for 53 pounds, 8 shillings, for the value of certain articles delivered to the Defendants as common carriers to be delivered to him in Victoria. They have not been delivered and the Plaintiff believes that the Defendants are about to leave for San Francisco and he asks that they be apprehended.

Grelley v. Kraft et al

File contains: Notice of Motion; (2) Draft: of Order; Receipt for Papers Out of Court; Notice of Filing Answer; Appearance for H. Kraft; Judges Minutes; Statement of Facts; Affidavit of Defendant Kraft; and Bill of Complaint. The Defendants leased the Colonial Hotel in Victoria from the Plaintiffs for one year. Disagreements arose between the parties and the Plaintiff asks that Kraft stops any further construction or renovation on the Hotel while the case between them is resolved with the Defendants paying the Plaintiff for damages suffered.

Salisbury v. Porter

File consists of two documents: Summons; Consent to Money Being Paid Out. Plaintiffs attorney to attend in Chambers to show cause why the Plaintiff should not find security for the Defendant's costs in this action.

Wilcox v. Pemberton et al

File consists of four document: (2) Costs; Affidavit of J. Wilcox; Order. Plaintiff had erected and maintained a Hotel on Wharf Street in Victoria which did quite well, being in a location beside the harbour and near the bridge. However, the Defendants then constructed a bar across the bridge which "entirely intercepts and obstructs the transit and traffic of vehicle," they no longer travel in front of the Plaintiffs hotel and his business as Innkeeper has thereby been greatly injured as a result.

Grelley v. Craft et al

Plaintiff claims $730 owed to him by the Defendant for the use and occupation of the Colonial Hotel. The Thomas K. Fleming research collection consists of materials related to the settler colonial history of British Columbia, and more broadly, the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Record types include correspondence, newsletters, press clippings, printed materials, notes, maps, legal documents, as well as Fleming`s stamp collection and associated records. Historical records in the collection include content primarily from the nineteenth to early twentieth century on such subjects as forestry, travel, commerce, and postal history. The collection has been arranged into two series: Historical Records and Research Subject Files series, and Stamp Collection and Related Materials series.

Historical records and research subject files

The series consists of historical records acquired by Fleming as well as research subject files he created in his study of British Colombian history. Subjects include the Alaska American/Canadian border dispute, British Columbia settler colonial history, the forestry and timber industry, trade and commerce in the Pacific Northwest, and particularly the Nootka crisis and the expedition of Alessandro Malaspina. Record types include correspondence, indentures, pamphlets, articles, notes, presentation materials, and photographs from Fleming's research related travel.
