Field Notebooks/Diaries series

Series consists of field notebooks created by Williams or others who worked on projects he was involved. Series is arranged chronologically by date of creation. In addition, notes briefly explaining the creation of the notebooks have been added.

Miscellaneous Subjects series

Series consists of correspondence, minutes, printed material, programs, reports, publications, and lecture and course notes about the Geological Society of America, the Royal Society of Canada, Museums in Vancouver, and the Canadian Department of Mines Geological Survey.

Reprint series

Series consists of reprints gathered by M.Y. Williams, reflecting his broad interest in geology and natural history. Series is arranged alphabetically by author and, on rare occasions, by subject.

International House Collection (William Black)

The collection consists of correspondence, printed material and clippings which document the early history of the International House movement on campus in the early 1950s. At that time, William Black was acting as faculty advisor to the International House Committee.

Margaret Rushton Theatre Collection

The collection consists of correspondence, financial materials, minutes, reports, plays, clippings, scrapbooks, notes, brochures, and photographs pertaining to various dramatic organizations with which Rushton was involved. These organizations include Vancouver Little Theatre Association, Vancouver Children's Theatre, Vancouver Community Children's Theatre, Holiday Theatre, Holiday Playhouse and Playhouse Theatre. Rushton collected this material for the purpose of writing a history of the Holiday Theatre and to document the children's theatre movement in British Columbia. Also included is an audio recording of an interview conducted by Rushton.

Personal Material series

Series consists of diaries, offprints, notes, financial materials, notebooks, examinations, certificates, essays, and printed material about Sage's personal life, including his student years. Biographical notes on Nelda Sage, Enoch Sage, and Henry T. Gerrans. Series contains four subseries: Biographical Material, Diaries, Financial Records, and Student Records subseries.

Addresses and Writings series

Series consists of the text of addresses, lecture and course notes, manuscripts, typescripts, essays, publications, book reviews, and a nearprint written by Walter N. Sage. Series contains six subseries: Addresses, Course/Lecture Notes, Manuscripts, Typescripts, Notes, and Publications subseries.

Organizational Affiliations series

Series consists of correspondence, addresses, minutes, notes, conference proceedings, bulletins, reports, printed material, and a photograph about the various organizations with which Sage was affiliated. In addition, the series contains two subseries: General and Historical Organization's subseries.

Articles and Reviews series

Series consists of articles, reviews, correspondence, clippings, photographs, reports, essays, and applications pertaining to Sage's professional activities, including those within the UBC Department of History. The series contains five subseries: Articles, Reviews, Other Material, Later Papers, and Department of History subseries.

Correspondence series

Series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence generated and received by Sage about his personal and professional life.

Subject Files series

Series consists of radio addresses, speeches, correspondence, minutes of meetings, and reports about Sage's interest in B.C. history. Includes personal names files that contain research notes, correspondence, and published or printed material about various individuals. It also includes property records about sites in Vancouver and Point Roberts. Series is divided into two subseries: Miscellaneous Subjects and Personal Names subseries.

Sage Family series

Series consists of lecture notes, examinations, correspondence, manuscripts, recipes, notes, transcripts, articles, printed material, publications, a photograph album, photographs, diaries, and financial material pertaining to various members of the Sage family, including Nelda Sage (Walter Sage's wife), Donald Sage (Walter Sage's son), F. Margaret Sage (Walter Sage's daughter), and Archdeacon George B. Sage (Walter Sage's father). Series contains four subseries: General, Nelda Sage, Donald Sage, and F. Margaret Sage subseries.

Research Files series

Series consists of notes, photostated documents, and published material collected by Sage in carrying out his research. Series contains two subseries: B.C. History and Canadian History subseries.

Photographs series

Series consists of photographs about Sage's family, friends, and colleagues and numerous historical sites in B.C.

Series consists of correspondence, reports, notes and schedules about Ames' involvement in program reviews for various museum studies programs, including the McCord Museum.

Department of Political Science, Sociology, and Anthropology [Simon Fraser University] Dispute series

Series consists of newspaper clippings, correspondence, reports, and printed material about the investigation into the dispute in the Political Science, Sociology, and Anthropology Departments at Simon Fraser University. The conflict began in 1969 when a trustee was established to administer the department. Some faculty and students struck, and the resulting disputes over promotion and tenure resulted in censure from both C.A.U.T. and C.S.A.A.

Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute series

Series consists of minutes of meetings of the Board of Directors and various committees, correspondence, financial statements, briefs, programmes, reports, fellowship applications, printed materials, and photographs about Ames' role as President of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, as well as the activities of the Institute in general.

Assorted Associations and Conferences series

Series consists of correspondence, printed material, and notes about various associations and related conferences in UBC and elsewhere. It includes lectures, roundtable discussions and radio talks. File 13-9a transferred by Dr. Elvi Whittaker in June 2021.

Manuscripts, Drafts, and Papers series

Series consists of manuscripts, drafts and papers, published and unpublished, written by Ames on various topics; also includes book reviews, journal submissions and manuscripts edited by Ames.

Research series

Series consists of grant applications and proposals to UBC and outside institutions, notices and awards, correspondence, coding manuals used in research projects, and leave applications to do research. Series includes materials related to Ames' membership in the Grants Committee of the Canadian Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee. Series is arranged chronologically.

Biographical series

Series consists of copies of curriculum vitae (1961-2001), miscellaneous citations (1982-2000) and annual reports (1963-1999).

Photographic series

Series consists of photographic material, including prints, slides, and negatives, used in Ames' lectures. Material relates mainly to India.

Audio Cassettes series

Series contains cassette tapes recorded in 1974 or 1975 featuring interviews with those who witnessed or somehow played a part in the "Post Office Sit-down," a protest in Vancouver in 1938, also known as "Bloody Sunday."

Alden Barss fonds

The fonds consists of textual records (including correspondence, reports, minutes and course materials), published materials, and photographs documenting the life and career of Alden Barss. The records relate to the teaching of horticulture; the development of the Department of Horticulture, the Faculty of Agriculture, and the University; Barss' involvement with the Anglican Theological College and the Anglican Church; his professional career; and his personal life. Some records were collected and arranged by Barss in the course of writing a history of the Department of Horticulture.

The series consists of correspondence, reports, course materials, published materials (including off-print articles, clippings, and pamphlets), and photographs. The records concern general aspects of horticulture.

The photographs are pasted onto pages, and part of a report is included in the "Geology Notes file." These pages have been placed in separate envelopes but left in the file folder.

Horticulture - Systematic Pomology series

The series consists of correspondence, course materials including written notes, and published materials (including off-print articles, clippings, and pamphlets). The records concern the growing of apples, pears, and related fruits.

Horticulture - Historical series

The series consists of correspondence, reports, course materials, published materials (including off-print articles, clippings, and pamphlets), and photographs. Some of the records may have been collected by Alden Barss in writing his history of the Department of Horticulture. The photos are described and stored separately.

"50 Years Horticulture at UBC, 1917-1967" series

The series consists of correspondence, reports, course materials, published materials (including off-print articles, clippings, and pamphlets), scripts for radio presentations, and photographs. These records were presumably collected and arranged by Alden Barss in writing his history of the Department of Horticulture, of which a copy is included in this series. The photographs are described and stored separately.

UBC series

The series consists of correspondence, reports, minutes, published materials, and photographs. The records deal primarily with the areas of University administration in which Barss was involved, including the Senate, the Inter-Fraternity Council, the Department of University Extension, the building of Brock Hall, and campus development and maintenance. Also included are some administrative records of the Department of Horticulture.

The photographs are described and stored separately.

Anglican Theological College series

The series consists of correspondence, reports, minutes, and published materials. The records document Alden Barss' involvement with the Anglican Theological College of B.C.

Agriculture series
