Caption in album reads, "The towers at Roumeli Hissar built Mahomed II Fatih (conqueror) just before conquering Constantinople in 1453. Robert College, an American institution is on the hills above. The towers were built in 3 months. The laborers, most of whom were prisoners of war were so overworked that they died by hundreds. Their graves cover the hillsides. An album of photographs and postcards of Istanbul (referred to as Stamboul or Constantinople throughout). Most of the images include type-written captions. The album comes from the estate of one Mr. Abramson, a former Consul General of the United States to Canada, and it is possible that he is the creator. A second album of Istanbul photos, also from Abramson's estate, is dated 1928, and is believed to be from the same trip (see UL_1293/1734 #4). The album, photos, and captions are all in good shape.
