Lee Wah Jong was born in in China in the [新會 Sunwui / Xinhui] county in 廣東 Guangdong province in 1906.
He arrived in Victoria, B.C. on November 23, 1914, at age 8 with his mother, Lee Wou Sze, as well as Miss Lee Lan (1895-1987) and Lee Cheong Dai (c. 1903-1985), who were believed by the family to be his paper sister and paper brother. The group was exempt from paying the head tax; he arrived as a merchant’s son.
His father, Lee Tin (Chow Lee, aka Lee Hock Chow; 1881-1944), arrived in Canada in 1910, and his mother, Lee Wou Sze (1882-1964), arrived in Canada on November 23, 1914. His father operated On Wo Tong, a traditional Chinese medicine store, located at 11 West Pender Street.
He was the eldest son and had seven younger siblings: Harry Kang Lee (1915-1988), Albert Wah Gay Lee (1919-1983), Winnifred Yuet Siu Lee (1920-1999), George Wah Poy Lee (1921-1989), Robert Wah Jew Lee (1923-1992), Helen Yuet Hing Lee (1925-2011), and David John Wah Sing Lee (b. 1927).
He was a student and participated in the Royal Canadian Army Cadet corps.
He died on August 6, 1929.
