From 1974 to 1977, Ian Waddell served as Special Counsel on Justice Thomas R. Berger's Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Inquiry (also known as the Berger Commission). This royal commission was tasked with reviewing the social, environmental, and economic impacts of a proposed gas pipeline in the Yukon and Mackenzie River Valley of the Northwest Territories.
