Biographical history
Mary Eliza Haweis (née Joy) was a British author, illustrator, painter, and Victorian scholar of Geoffrey Chaucer. She was the daughter of artist Thomas Musgrave Joy (1812-1866). At 18, she exhibited her works at the Royal Academy.
