The fonds consists of Ujjal Dosanjh’s private records from 1977 to 2015, comprising of all aspects of Donsanjh’s life in Canada. A prominent portion relates to his lifelong advocacy of Indo-Canadian issues. Particular matters addressed include Sikh extremism, the Khalistan movement, the bombing of Air India flight 182, and the Komagata Maru incident. Many records of a long political career, split between the provincial level; as a BC MLA, attorney general, and premier; and the federal level in the roles Minister of Health and a member of parliament; document the years between 1979 to 2011. These records are wide ranging and diverse in terms of their topics and functions. An extensive collection of scrapbooks contains contemporary media reaction related to Dosanjh's political and community work.
The fonds is arranged into six series: Media and Publicity, Authorship, Advocacy and Indian/South Asian Issues, General Correspondence, Provincial Political Career, and Federal Political Career.

Collection contains correspondence relating to Florence Nightingale. The majority of the letters are addressed to Nightingale while others are sent from her or involve other correspondents discussing Nightingale. Letters date from 1877 to 1965. There are also newspaper clippings, transcripts, notes, and envelopes that all relate to Florence Nightingale. There are also photographs of Florence Nightingale and prominent people in her life.

The first part of the collection contains letters between Haldane from his mother, Mary Elizabeth Haldane (née Burdon Sanderson) and other family members regarding familial matters. These letters range from 1883 to1926. There are other letters pertaining to Mary Elizabeth Haldane and Edinburgh professors that are in the collection as well ranging from 1887 to 1922. Haldane’s personal documents, including his birth certificate and university certificates are also in this collection, ranging between 1878 to1897.

His reports, tables and correspondences are contained within, as well as his papers and speeches. These are largely undated and concern topics such as miners’ eye problems, tuberculosis in the Navy, regulation of normal breathing, functions of sweat, kinetic theory of gases, death by suffocation and the like. According to H.M. Sinclair: “Mrs. Haldane told me that her husband destroyed his MS as soon as the paper was published, and these lectures and addresses to various societies were not published. Haldane always wrote his addresses out in full, and this collection is mainly written in full in his own hand.”

A section of the collection contains reports and correspondence of Haldane’s work with the use of gas in WWI. H.M. Sinclair states that the collection is: “A most important collection of papers relating to his and Douglas's researches in World War I when gas was first used. Included are long autograph letters from Douglas (who was in the field in France), very out spoken about the military authorities and giving full descriptions of the casualties and attempts to prevent them.”

Finally, there are 2 drafts of an unpublished book written by Haldane on vitalistic physiology. H.M. Sinclair notes that: “The first draft is copiously corrected . . . This has been entirely rewritten in nine chapters of the final draft. . . . This very interesting book was never published, but illustrates the state of physiology at the turn of the century as seen by a young graduate of about 30 years.”

This accumulation of materials constitutes the background for the final report on the Hoxsey Cancer Clinic in Dallas, Texas, which was published by the Queen’s Printer in Victoria in 1958. The collection consists of correspondence, account sheets, newspaper clippings, brochures, patient records, interview transcriptions and the final draft of the committee report.

Collection consists of letters addressed to Dr. Alexander Marcet, one from William Prout and the remainder from William Chas. Wells. The letters date from 1811 to 1817. The letters discuss various experiments on urine, the research of Professor Prevost on radiant heat, and Mrs. Marcet’s work on political economies.

Fonds reflects a portion of Walker Gill Wylie’s career in gynecology and hospital management. Contents include manuscripts of reports, lectures, and papers produced by Wylie. There are also several periodicals from various professional associations that he was associated with. There is also a letter regarding the provenance of the fonds after Wylie’s death.

Fonds consists of Emery's photographs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, identification cards and ephemera. The records document Emery's service as a nurse during World-War Two, as well as her experiences of World-War One, and her life and career as a nurse in Vancouver and New Brunswick.
The fonds is comprised of two series; Nursing Records and Personal Records.
The Nursing Records series includes a photograph album captioned in detail by Emery covering her year of service overseas from 1944 to 1945, as well as immigration documents, certificates, and correspondence related to her nursing career.
The Personal Records series is comprised of correspondence with friends and family, as well as photographs of Emery, her family, and acquaintances.

This fonds consists of documents, archival records, photographs, ephemera, and artifacts pertaining to the life and work of Hanne Wassermann Walker. These materials relate to several broad themes: health and fitness, travel, friends and family, immigration to North America, and art/photography. Hanne's collection provides a window into the early 20th century physical culture movement; the experience of Jewish Europeans in the lead-up to, during, and after World War II; and the landscapes of British Columbia between the 1940s and 1970s. The fonds is comprised of manuscripts and published materials, correspondence, government records, photographs (including negatives, metadata, and albums), and more. In addition to Hanne's extensive collection of letters, postcards, personal and official records, and assorted odds and ends (e.g. household receipts, business cards, recipes, etc.), the fonds also contains the records of her husband, George Dickson Walker.

Fonds consists of the John Howard Society of British Columbia, Nanaimo Area Council’s records of the Mid-Island Diversion Programme. Founded in 1975, the Mid-Island Diversion Programme formulated its aims and operations upon John Hogarth’s Sentencing as a Human Process (1971) and the Law Reform Commission of Canada’s Working Paper No. 7 on diversion (1975). The programme was founded with the following objectives: providing a community-based diversion program as an alternative to the criminal justice system for individuals who committed minor offenses; shifting the responsibility of addressing such offenses from the government to the community; modifying the attitude of the public towards these offenders and towards the criminal justice system; and working towards the decriminalization of certain minor offenses. The programme was overseen by the Nanaimo Area Council Diversion Programme Support Committee with representatives from the Crown Counsel, RCMP, probation officers, John Howard Society members, and interested community members. Within its first few years, the programme expanded from Nanaimo to also include communities in Cowichan, Duncan, Ladysmith, and Parksville. The programme seems to have continued until around 2019, at which point the John Howard Society, Nanaimo Area Council directed its resources towards other restorative justice efforts.

The programme was designed for adult offenders with no more than two prior convictions who had been accused of the following types of offenses, among others: theft under $200, possession of stolen property under $200, assault, causing a disturbance, possession of marijuana, willful damage, and possession of a prohibited weapon. Adults accused of other types of offenses could be accepted or rejected from the programme based on their previous criminal record, social background, and community presence. Acceptance into the programme required a referral from the Crown Counsel, approval from the RCMP investigating officer and victim, and voluntary participation on the part of the alleged offender. Participation in the programme required the alleged offender’s stated intention to take responsibility for their actions, but did not count as a legal admission of guilt. After acceptance into the programme, the client would formulate a diversion plan with a diversion counsellor. The diversion plan generally required the client to complete the following tasks over a three-month period: community work at a non-profit organization; a letter of appreciation to the RCMP Investigating Officer for referral to the programme; a letter of apology to the victim; if relevant, paid restitution for damages; and meetings with a diversion counsellor weekly or every other week. Upon the programme’s completion, the diversion counsellor submitted a final report to inform the Crown, RCMP, and victim.

Fonds documents the administration and operations of the Mid-Island Diversion Programme, and includes statistical reports, procedural manuals, correspondence, case files, rejection files, and other material.

The fonds consists of medical claim files collected between 1939 and 1974 for Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada (CM&S, later known as Cominco) workers in Trail, B.C. Files include claim forms with doctors’ certificates, checks to sick accounts, correspondence between the Society and worker and/or worker’s doctor, medical examination sheets, and other material produced by workers’ participation in the claim process.

Claim forms were submitted by workers every fourteen days during a given benefit period to obtain claim payment. These forms generally record dates from which the employee was absent and was expected to return to work, a doctor’s diagnosis and certification of the worker’s claim, and, if relevant, details of the sickness or accident inciting medical attention. Some files include a full medical examination sheet, which was required for a worker’s acceptance as a Society member. Although not included in every file, correspondence was produced when the Society assessed the validity of a claim and/or extended benefits, doctors attested to an employee’s fitness (or lack of) to return to work, and workers checked on the progress of their claims.
