Director Search series

Series consists of correspondence, reports, and clippings, most of which served as background material in the School's search for a new Director to replace Douglas Shadbolt.

Douglas Shadbolt sous-fonds

Sous-fonds consists of correspondence, reports, committee minutes, budget and other financial records, clippings, course materials, and drawings. The records document Shadbolt's tenure as Director of the School, as well as his professional activities and interests. There is a great deal of overlap between records documenting these two areas of activity. They are arranged in the following series: Accreditation, Administration, Admissions, Advisory Design Panel, Architectural Institute of B.C., B.Arch./M.Arch., Budgets, CAA Visiting Board, Campus Development, Centres - Development, Continuing Education, Correspondence - General, Courses and Workshops, Dean's Office, Development Plan, Friends of the School, Graduate Programmes, Landscape Architecture, Management Committee, MASA, President's Office, Programmes, Public Relations, School Council, Shadbolt - Personal, Senate Academic Building Needs, Space and Equipment, UBC-AIBC Joint Education Committee, and University Committees. Within each series, the files are arranged in alphabetical order.

Possible Closure of School series

Series consists of correspondence relating to a proposal to close the school in the face of cuts in funding to the University. It includes letters of support sent to the School, and copies of letters sent to the University administration opposing the proposed closure, from professional associations, other architectural schools, individual architects and architectural firms, and other concerned individuals.

Course and Programme Materials series

Series consists of course materials for several courses, tutorials, and programmes of study. The materials include course outlines and assignments and curriculum proposals by professors with supporting documentation.

Historical Files series

Series consists of correspondence, reports, and clippings documenting the School's early history. Included are correspondence and related materials from the School's second Director, Henry Elder.

Director's Files series

Series consists of correspondence, reports, committee minutes, budget and other financial records, clippings, course materials, and drawings. The records document the Director's role in the administration and development of the School and the School's relations with the rest of the University, other architectural schools, and external organizations such as professional bodies and accreditation boards. They are arranged in three sub-series: School of Architecture, UBC, and External. File folders are colour-coded by sub-series and filed alphabetically.

Scrapbooks series

Series consists of three scrapbooks prepared by the School for the University's 1975 Open House. They contain clippings, correspondence, and departmental records.

Fonds consists of correspondence, reports, committee minutes, budget and other financial records, clippings, course materials, drawings, and photographs. The records document the evolution of the School of Architecture, its activities and programmes, and its relations with other architectural institutions and professional bodies. They are arranged in the following series: Historical Files, Building of Fine Arts Centre / Lasserre Building, Director's Files, Possible Closure of School, Director Search, UBC Library Bookplate Competition, Course and Programme Materials, and Scrapbooks. The fonds also includes three sous-fonds (sub-groups): the papers of former director Douglas Shadbolt, records of the Architectural Undergraduate Society, and the papers of former student Peter Cotton.
