These papers consist of 5 metres of Stuart Keate's personal papers which he kept in files at the office or at home. They span the years 1918(?) to his death in 1987. The bulk of the collection dates from 1943 to 1987. The majority of the records are textual records. Other media include 268 photographs, one negative and 14 tape recordings.
The papers cover four main areas of interest. Firstly, they provide background information on policy and editorial decisions made by Keate, his superiors and his staff when he was publisher at the Vancouver Sun, the Victoria Daily Province and Bureau Chief for Time Magazine in Montreal.
Information concerning publishing and editorial decisions can be found in those files of memos and correspondence between Keate and Bruce Hutchison, Max Bell, R .A . Malone, G .N .M . Currie, F .P . Pulbications Limited and Allan Fotheringham and a few other members of The Vancouver Sun staff. These will mainly be found in the Victoria Daily Times and The Vancouver Sun files. There are also some files in Keate's home files. Files of letters and ideas for his book, Paper Boy, which was published in 1980, provide further information on policy and editorial positions as well as much information on newspaper magnate Max Bell about whom he wanted one day to write a book.
Secondly, these papers provide an insight into Keate's wide range of interests, activities and involvement in the community and public affairs particularly in the 1960s and 1970s. There are copies of over 150 speeches written by Keate. There are a series of notes, letters and a report he prepared for the federal government as a neutral mediator in 1966 dealing with the CBC's handling of personnel of the program, "This Hour Has Seven Days." Numerous correspondence files with service, recreational and community groups as well as scrapbooks, tape recordings and photographs of sportsmen and political figures furnish a picture of a man keenly interested in his city, province, and country.
Thirdly, the files cover his experiences as an information officer for the Department of National Defence - Naval Service during the second World War. They consist of correspondence with his wife, with the Department of National Defense Naval Office and a diary written while on board the ship the HMSS Uganda in 1945.
Fourthly, they show Keate, the author, at work. There are a number of drafts as well as correspondence relating to his book, Paper Boy. Various manuscripts in the collection also document his writing activities.

This collection consists of materials related to early British Columbia history in the years when BC was still a British colony, prior to joining Canada in 1871. The collection consists of colonial government documents (proclamations, messages, acts, and rules and regulations) effecting the daily life of British Columbians. These include real estate titles, road works, railways, local, legal and financial matters, labour, and infrastructure. The collection includes proclamations by James Douglas, who was the first governor of BC and served from 1858-1864.

The fonds consists of club ledger books (1957-1969), minutes of the CCF Vancouver Centre District Council (1945-1946), membership file (ca. 1966), an undated historical sketch of the club and other collected materials.

The fonds consists of correspondence (1952-1976), primarily incoming, as well as published and unpublished manuscripts of poetry, prose, essays and plays. The fonds also includes biographical material, financial records (1967-1976), reviews written by (1948-1973) and about (1963-1973) Cooperman, two photographs of Cooperman, printed materials, course files, tapes of interviews, lectures and poetry readings.

The fonds consists of biographical information, minutes and records of the meetings of the Coalition and its steering committee, and copies of the reports, briefs, submissions and letters received by the People's Commission of Solidarity in its travels around British Columbia. The fonds also includes printed material on various subjects (eg., economics, education, housing, health care, labour, etc.), photographs, copies of petitions and taped hearings of the Commission.

The fonds consists of Executive Board minutes and general office files as well as correspondence, reports, speeches, questionnaires, minutes and agendas, printed material, and subject files relating to the following program committees of SPARC Committees on Aging, Coalition on Children, Youth, and the Law, Health Committee, Panel on Handicapped, and Transportation Committee. Other records relate to various topics such as financial resources, housing, patient's rights, long term care, and organizational skills.

The fonds consists of material pertaining to Scott's career as a newspaper editor, including with newspapers such as the Sackville Post and Vancouver News-Advertiser, as well as material relating to his political, educational and literary endeavours and interests. Included are biographical materials, incoming and outgoing letters (1838-1923), subject files, articles and essays by Scott (1875-1922), ephemera, photographs, maps and printed material.

The fonds consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence, drafts, speeches, memos, photographs and subject files relating to S.M. Scott's academic and diplomatic careers, as well as military service during World War I. Documents on the Scott family history are also included.

The fonds consists of correspondence, speeches, newspaper clippings, personal files and other material relating to the political career of S.F. Tolmie. The bulk of the material was generated during his years as premier (1928-1933) with some files (1918-1920) from his term as MP for Victoria.

The fonds consists of records related to the Service, Office, and Retail Workers Union of Canada’s (SORWUC’s) local chapters 2 and 4 administrative activities, organizing endeavours and legal proceedings. Although the records are primarily related to the United Bank Works (UBW), local 2, and Bank and Finance Workers Union, local 4, many records are related to SORWUC’s national activities as a trade union. These activities include organization and certification of new bargaining units, filing unfair labour practices on behalf of union members, pamphleting and raising funds for the union as a whole, organizing strikes, and fighting court battles for the right to organize in new sectors, such as the banks. Additionally, SORWUC kept various reference materials on topics related to feminism and the rights of laborers. The fonds reflect these different organizational activities in three series: Legal, Organizing, and Administration.

The Legal series consists of records related to the union’s legal activities. These records include Unfair Labour Practice (ULP) charges filed against banks and heard by the Canadian Labour Relations Board (CLRB), applications for certification in the CLRB, notes, correspondence, news clippings, and legal briefs.

The Organizing series consists of material relating to the organizing activities of SORWUC, including correspondence, research, membership forms, sign-up sheets and information relating to bank branches seeking certification. Also included are contract proposals, organizing committee papers by branch, and minutes of negotiation meetings, press clippings and press releases.

The Administration series relates to the various administrative activities of SORWUC locals 2 and 4; including financial activities, research for court cases, as well as related issues to the union such as unemployment and racism; public relations documents including press releases; and minutes of meetings.

This fonds contains records of the Service, Office and Retail Workers Union of Canada (SORWUC) from their active life between 1972 and 1986. The records pertain to the functioning of the National Headquarters, Local sections and the union as a whole within its communities. The content of the records is primarily focused in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, but the union's influence reaches a national level including activity in the prairies, Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes. While the central concern of SORWUC was directly related to unionization, the records also concern feminist activity and the pursuance of equal rights for women in society. The material is in the form of correspondence, financial records and statements, various publications, and photographs.

The fonds consists of corporate records, a research collection of Seaboard historical material used in the preparation of a corporate history, John A. Humbird's journals of his overseas trips for Seaboard (1937-1945) and photographs of Seaboard personnel, delegations, ships, ports, logging operations, and sawmills.

The collection consists of records relating to logging and the forest industry including health and safety and long-term disability information for the International Woodworkers of America (IWA), Forest Industrial Relations correspondence (1981-1983), information on scaling, wage scales, one map, and six photographs (1933-34) of Caterpiller Diesel Seventy-Five.

The fonds consists of records of the Vancouver Hoo-Hoo Club No. 48 and the International Concatenated Order of the Hoo-Hoo and the records of Scott's participation in these organizations. It includes correspondence, financial records, minutes, photographs, printed material and related material. In addition, Scott compiled notes and lists on lumber retailers, wholesalers, forestry manufacturing units, and lumber exporters as well as a collection of rules for the grading and dressing of lumber, 1922-1970.

The fonds consists of a manuscript, black-and-white and colour prints, and slide images relating to life in the Szechuan province of China (1920-1950). A manuscript entitled A Trip to Tibet (Summer 1930) with photographs chronicles a trip taken by the Crooks with fellow medics and missionaries. The considerable slide and print collection reveals aspects of Chinese people, life and topography as well as Asian-Christian subjects.

Fonds consists of 947 letters, bills of exchange, and telegrams sent from Victoria-area merchants to Royal Fisk, a forwarding and shipping agent in San Francisco, during the Cariboo Gold Rush. Letters provide insight into the effect of the Cariboo Gold Rush on trade and commerce in Victoria at the time. Topics covered in the letters include ordering goods; remitting cash, gold and drafts; advising of market prices; conditions in the mines of Victoria and Puget Sound; providing news of latest gold discoveries, shipping activity, finances, and mergers or dissolutions; business alliances; establishing express services; arrival of the first telegraph; et al.

The collection consists of correspondence, field notes and printed material relating to the Romani people and essays and vocabulary manuscripts about the Romani of Washington State.

The fonds consists of material accumulated by Roger Bowen in order to write his biography of E. Herbert Norman. It includes various files, including F.B.I. files.

The fonds consists of correspondence, speeches (including Young's parliamentary addresses), clippings and scrapbooks pertaining to Young's career and political views, as well as publications, constitutions and bylaws, newsletters, notices, and minutes pertaining to the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation. Also included are university essays on socialism, economics, and international affairs collected, but not written, by Young.

Fonds includes manuscript and printed maps with annotations pertaining to B.C. fisheries and the topography of B.C.

The fonds consists of the financial records of Dwyer's funeral home in Kamloops, B.C. and personal records of R.H. Dwyer (1910-1953). Included in the financial records are income tax returns (1931-1949), journals (1910-1945), ledgers (1917-1943), synoptic ledger sheets (1944- 1952), agreements (1952-1953) and purchase orders (1945-1950). The personal records contain information pertaining to the Kamloops Masonic Temple Association.

The fonds consists of personal materials including biographical information, correspondence (1905-1944), financial records (1892-1930), speeches, clippings and memorabilia relating to Canadiana and mining in British Columbia. Also included are collected historical items, most prominent amongst which are research materials relating to Alfred Waddington (1858-1872). The fonds also includes various collected historical items (1754-1889) and photographs of the E. Moss family, Esquimalt scenery and buildings, scenes of Nelson and Ymir mining, and Cape Breton scenery.

Included is correspondence from the Vancouver Committee to Aid American War Objectors (1968-1975), questionnaires, related information and analysis (1969/70), interview transcripts, clippings, notes and printed material. The material was created during the writing of Kasinsky's book entitled, "Refugees from Militarism: Draft-Age Americans in Canada".

Records include much material relating to the Solidarity Coalition, human rights, and the Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of British Columbia.

Fonds consists mostly of cartographic materials relating to reconnaissance trips taken by R.C. Harris. The maps are both historic and those drawn up by Harris for his trips, incorporating old trails on current maps. While the inclusive dates of the map collection are from 1835 - 1981, the majority of these maps were created from 1880 -1930. They are organized according to a personal classification system maintained by R.C. Harris. The remainder of the fonds consists of surveys, plans, photos, correspondence, topographical notes, magazine and newspaper clippings, Harris research notes, books, reports, brochures, photocopies, and book reviews.
