Biographical/Autobiographical Material series

The series consists of biographical information, including CVs, CBC contracts, residency permits, and an interview transcript. It also includes an obituary for Josè Emilio Pacheco, retirement books and other personal materials.

Digital Media series

The series consists of various formats of CDs, DVDs, and floppy disks containing digital images, textual documents, and audiovisual recordings.

Administration series

Series consists of records documenting the Society's programs and activities, including minutes and agendas of the Executive and Board of Directors; budgets and other financial records; broadcast license applications and supporting documentation; training manuals; radio playlists; scripts; reports; and correspondence.

Conferences, Projects, and Papers series

The series consists of records, including correspondence, notes, draft papers, photographs and ephemera, relating to New's participation in or responsibility for various projects, conferences, committees, and papers.

Ceremonies Office fonds

The fonds consists of records generated through the various activities of the Ceremonies Office. Included in the fonds are administrative records (1964-1984) as well as records that document the activities associated with Congregation (1950-2006), building openings (1951-1986) and numerous functions sponsored by the University (1962-1995). The fonds also include information about honorary degree recipients, congratulatory greetings to Presidents K. George Pedersen (1983), David Strangway (1985) and various other ceremonial activities. Course Teaching Materials series

Series consists of records documenting Robert McDonald’s teaching activities and includes course outlines and syllabi, lecture notes, class handouts, newspaper clippings, website printouts, and other materials used to develop course content. It is organized by course number into the following sub-series: History 135 – History of Canada, History 235 – History of Canada, History 303 – History of the Canadian West, History 305 – British Columbia, History 329 – Canadian Social History, History 404 – British Columbia, History 433 – Fourth-Year Honours Seminar, History 490 – Seminar for Majors in History, History 500 – Readings in Canadian History, and History 597 – Topics in Comparative History.

Files have been largely retained in their original order, which would have reflected the order in which subjects were presented in class. There is some overlap in contents between some of the sub-series, particularly in cases where the course has been re-numbered, but the subject remains the same.

Financial Records series

Series consists of financial statements, bills and receipts, treasurers' records, receipt books, ledgers bank statements, cancelled cheques and various other material relating to the financial activities of the Institute.

Friedman Home series

This series consists of architectural plans, design guides, cost estimates and magazines related to the Friedman house. The series is organized chronologically, beginning in 1952 with the original plans, followed by remodelling in 1966 and 1981 and ending with the remodel in 2012. The architectural plans are kept separately.

Scripts series

Series consists of typescripts of Joe Schlesinger’s television news reports (1966-86) and printouts of his commentaries written for the CBC News and CBC Newsworld websites. Files are maintained in chronological order. The scripts are typed on either “onion-skin” paper or script paper. Many are carbon copies, and most have written edits on them. In many cases, several versions of the same script are retained to consider Schlesinger’s last-minute amendments.

Congregation series

Series consists of textual material, photographs, and audio and videotapes which document the various activities associated with the University's annual Congregation ceremonies. The textual records include information about the events' preparation, various social activities, and honorary degree recipients.
The bulk of the photographs (35,000) consists of negatives stored on reels of individual shots of students receiving their degrees (1993-1997). Four boxes of 35mm negative reels are located with the photographs in the Archives vault (Box 1: 1986-93, Box 2: 1994-96, Box 3: 1996-97 & Box 4: 1997). The remaining photographs document Congregation processions, speeches, honorary degree recipients, audiences, and tree-planting ceremonies (1966-2002).

Field Hockey series

The records in the Field Hockey Series are comprised primarily of research materials on the history of field hockey at UBC. Other documents in this series include roster lists, newspaper clippings, bulletins, and committee responsibilities. In addition, UBC Field Hockey programs and statistics can be found in the Media and Promotions Series.

Ice Hockey series

The Ice Hockey Series consists of team rosters, programs, scoresheets, and newspaper clippings. Also found in the series are scrapbooks made up of news clippings from the 1940s and 1950s and a history of UBC ice hockey by Bus Moore. Similar to the other series listed in the fonds, further ice hockey programs and statistics can be found in the Media and Promotions Series.

Volleyball series

Newspaper clippings, team list for 1987-88, score sheets, and team plays make up the central extent of the records in the Volleyball Series. Further programs and statistics on volleyball at UBC can be found in the Media and Promotions Series.

David Measday fonds

Fonds consists of materials related to David Measday from his time as a graduate student at Oxford to his post-retirement work at UBC. The fonds primarily include material regarding his research, academic writings, and administrative duties at the University of British Columbia. Additionally, reports arise from various international, governmental, and non-governmental organizations with which Measday had some association. Organizational records include materials for the development of TRIUMF. There is also a small amount of teaching material from lectures and physics courses taught by Measday. Material is organized into series based on intuitional association, most of which is from Measday’s time working at UBC and TRIUMF.

Media & Promotions series

The Media and Promotions Series makes up the most extensive portion of the Department of Athletics and Recreation fonds, and sporting publications make up the majority of those records. Included are programs, media guides, championship statistics, fact books, and yearbooks related to the more dominant sports at UBC. News releases can be found in this series, but the most common records are newspaper clippings and sporting publications. Editions of the Alumni magazine Blue & Gold can be found along with miscellaneous items on the UBC Hall of Fame, BC Hall of Fame, and the Big Brock Club.

Soccer series

The records in the Soccer Series consist of game sheets for men’s and women’s soccer games, predominantly for 2013-2014. Also found are newspaper clippings, media guides, and soccer programs. Further newspaper clippings and soccer programs can be found in the Media and Promotions Series.

Visual Resource Management series

Series consists of textual and photographic records documenting the work of Sheppard and others with CALP in relating environmental and aesthetic concerns in public perceptions of forestry and forest management, focusing on Weyerhaeuser's cutting practices, including variable selection logging and other selective logging methods. Records include published studies, reports, correspondence, related textual materials, and slides showing aerial and landscape views illustrating forestry practices and environmental aesthetics used in public presentations.

Student Christian Movement (UBC) series

Series consists of records of this interdenominational group, a branch of the World Student Christian Federation. The material reflects the ecumenical movement and various religious groups on campus. Records relating to the Murrin Fund are also included.

Organizations and Associations series

The series consists of forms, pamphlets, applications, conference proceedings, notes, note-cards and certificates relating to the various organizations and associations that Joy Coghill was a member of or contributed to in some way, notably Western Gold Society and Holiday Theatre / Playhouse Theatre.

Publishing series

Series consists of materials documenting Kevin Chong’s relationships in the publishing industry and includes correspondence, agreements, publishers’ catalogues, annotated off-prints, and readers’ reports.

Genealogical work series

Series includes a bound, five-volume set of Dr. Lowe’s memoirs along with a bound single-volume history of the Burpee family by Isaac Burpee. It also includes correspondence (copies and originals) and other genealogical records.

TRIUMF Projects, Notes and Research series

This series consists of TRIUMF project documentation and planning other than the Kaon Factory accelerator. It includes handwritten research notes, research on planned projects, numbers generated by projects, and related records. Projects include FFAG, Courier, ISAC facilities for rare isotope beams (particularly EMMA), and other cyclotron-related experiments.

World reunions

Series consists of journals, CDs and DVDs, and invitations about the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th World Reunions of the Johanneans. Series is arranged into ten files.

Grants and Awards series

Series consists of materials documenting various grant programmes for which Smedley was eligible and includes correspondence and documentation for granting agencies.

Photographs series

The series consists of photographs of Coghill, including headshots, involvement in various productions on and off stage, and cast members. Also included is the output of Coghill's play Song Of This Place, and the photographs of Coghill with family and friends. Includes black-and-white and colour prints, negatives, and colour slides.

Lawrence Lowe fonds

Conferences and Workshops series

This series consists of records related to attending, planning, hosting and managing various conferences, including various particle accelerators Conferences, Cyclotrons conferences, SNOWMASS and others. It also includes records related to TRIUMF workshops for the public and those offered at scientific conferences.

Correspondence series

Series consists of Mattessich’s personal and professional correspondence and related documents and includes correspondence (written, typescript, and e-mail), notes, copies of publications, and copies of contracts/agreements. Some were in folders when the Archives acquired the fonds, while others were found loose and reorganized during processing. The files are arranged mainly in chronological order.

Training Documentation series

Series consists of an appraisement report produced for the University by the General Appraisal Company of Vancouver, appraising the value of UBC’s properties and physical assets. The report comprises nine volumes; an index included with Volume 1 and a recapitulation.

Digital Media series

The initial acquisition in 2013 consisted of 1 USB and 2 CDs. These records include email correspondence, an unpublished story collection, thesis, zine material, drafts of short stories, poetry, autobiographical work, proofs and photographs. Formats include jpg, word, HTML, pdf and tiff. In addition, a copy of the lengthy directory trees (file/item list) is available for the initial acquisition of the USB and the two CDs. These may be requested from archives staff.

More detailed information on digital media acquired in 2020 is pending.

Dean’s Office – Subject Files series

Series consists of subject files maintained by the Dean’s Office, which document the activities, programmes, interests, and relationships of the Faculty of Commerce / Sauder School of Business, and include correspondence (internal and external), minutes, reports, and published materials. It is organized in alphabetical order by file title.

Journals series

Series consists of journals about Shanghai No.3 Girls’ High School, The East China University of Politics and Law, St. John’s University, East China Normal University in China and St. John’s & St. Mary’s Institute of Technology in Taiwan. The above-mentioned schools are related to St. John’s University. Some journals also mark the 125th and 130th anniversary of St. John’s University and the World Reunions of Johanneans. A newsletter catalogue is available. Series is arranged into nineteen files.

Department of English fonds

The series consists of correspondence, drafts, manuscripts, and other records related to works for children authored by New.
