Pre-Production series

Series consists of the process of script editing, location scouting, casting and other arrangements made before filming starts.

Production series

Series consists of the final production schedule, archived location shots, contracts and license agreements and transcriptions of videotaped interviews. In addition, this series contains one subseries: Transcriptions.

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Inquiry Collection (various collectors)

The collection consists of exhibits, videotapes and documents collected for the Public Complaints Commission (PCC), correspondence and legal documents related to both the PCC and related legal actions, APEC Alert posters, information, pamphlets and ephemera, other material collected and created by Oppenheim with regard to the events surrounding APEC and the RCMP PCC, transcripts of the PCC proceedings, and a number of photographs.

Videotapes subseries

The subseries consists of videotaped exhibits compiled for the APEC PCC and other amateur and news videos of actions at UBC and Downtown Vancouver concerning APEC. The videos include helicopter and night vision footage of downtown and UBC, news coverage of APEC and the protests at UBC, and RCMP video footage of the event at UBC.

APEC RCMP PCC Exhibits subseries

The subseries consists of documents compiled by various government agencies and civilian witnesses for exhibit during the RCMP Public Complaints Commission. The exhibits consist of correspondence, witness statements, police statements, photographs and videotapes and other materials considered pertinent for inclusion. The exhibits are arranged in alpha-numeric order where applicable and then maintained by the donor.

Photographs series

Series consists of photographs from the receptions celebrating Brett Finlay’s appointment as Distinguished Professor and former Peter Wall Institute Director Ken MacCrimmon’s retirement, photographs of the team responsible for Understand Electron Motion in Matter, and photographs of the University Gathering Place.

Note: The Visiting Junior Scholar Program existed from 1999-2003 and has been replaced by the Wall Summer Institute for Research Program.

Grant Provision series

This series consists of annual binders from the grant allocation process conducted by the Advisory Committee on Distance Education & Technology from 1997 to 2004. These binders include grant proposals by various departments for setting up or revising distance education courses, as well as meeting minutes and agenda of the Advisory Committee on Distance Education & Technology regarding the grant allocation process.

Citizenship Judge subseries

Subseries consists of reference materials, research and reports, citizenship programs, correspondence, citizenship promotional material, and meeting minutes and agenda from H. Peter Oberlander’s time as a Citizenship Court Judge.

Commerce/Sauder Name Change series

Series consists of records which document the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration changing its name to the Sauder School of Business in 2003 after the donation of a $20 million endowment by William L. Sauder. It consists of correspondence, reports, and a video recording of the announcement of Sauder’s donation and the resulting name change. It is arranged in chronological order.

RCMP PCC / Federal Trial Correspondence subseries

The subseries consists of correspondence regarding the RCMP PCC and related legal action around the PCC. It consists primarily of correspondence to Jonathan Oppenheim but includes correspondence written by Oppenheim and other civilian participants in the RCMP PCC. In addition, it includes Oppenheim's "resignation letter" to PCC Commissioner Ted Hughes. The majority of the correspondence is arranged in roughly chronological order.

General APEC Documents and Correspondence subseries

The subseries consists of various documents related to the APEC PCC. It includes a variety of APEC-related correspondence, exhibits, submissions and notes. Much of the material is related to the perceived lack of cooperation of the Prime Minister's Office in providing access to necessary documents. Or access to the Prime Minister himself, as well as including Procter's note which led to Andy Scott's resignation and the end of the first phase of the RCMP PCC.

APEC Protest series

On November 24 and 25, 1997, student protests occurred on the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus regarding the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings, leading to a violent crackdown by police. This series contains materials related to David Breen’s involvement with the protests, including complaints filed regarding excessive force by police, the documents related to the official RCMP Complaints Commission, the hearings, and the final report. Also included are news articles from the Vancouver Sun and Ubyssey covering the issue. Materials are arranged by subject and then chronologically.

Research series

Series consists of background research on corporations and focuses mainly on various corporate institutions and ethical issues arising from corporations' dominance and practice. In addition, this series includes numerous magazine articles, newspaper clippings, and corporate ephemera.

Utilities Billing and Administration series

Series consists of meeting minutes, correspondence, and billing agreements, resulting from the administration of hydro and gas to UBC buildings by UBC occupants. It also includes materials forecasting new developments, infrastructure costs and anticipated utility needs.

Manuscripts – Published Works series

Series consists of typewritten manuscript drafts, many of which include handwritten notes and annotations of works by Kevin Chong that were eventually published, broadcast, or performed. They are arranged into sub-series: Books, Short Fiction, Broadcast Works, and Stage Works. Within each sub-series, files documenting each work are grouped and arranged chronologically by the work’s publication date.

Some manuscripts have dates included with them, and these are noted in the file list. Dates in square brackets are estimates, either provided by Chong or inferred by the materials themselves.

The Golden Rose series

The Golden Rose is a novel published by PEP in 1996. It is a historical fiction novel intended for young adults, most likely middle school age. There was also a teacher resource created to help teachers, which included various exercises and discussion questions. Series consists of editorial notes and correspondence.

Infrastructure Development fonds

Fonds consists of records documenting the functions and activities of UBC Infrastructure Development and older records documenting those functions, development and management of institutional facilities within the former units of UBC Utilities and Campus Planning and Development. Records include correspondence, technical diagrams, meeting minutes and information, strategic planning reports, news clippings, consultation documents.
Records related to development projects were kept in their original order in the Project Files and Development series. However, other documents had no discernible order and were arranged into the other series presented.

Alumni Association Annual Dinner series

Series consists of 28 videotapes (beta masters and VHS copies) that document the Alumni members honoured at the annual Alumni Dinner. This event has also often been combined with the yearly UBC Sports Hall of Fame inductions.

Honours and Awards series

Series includes records about Richard and Verna’s membership in the Order of Canada, their UBC joint honorary degree, and their entry into the Canadian Who’s Who. Records include information sheets and pamphlets, newsletters, correspondence, biographical summaries, and speech transcripts.

The Clean Body: A Modern History subseries

Subseries consists of research and materials relating to Ward's book The Clean Body: A Modern History published by McGill-Queen's University Press in November 2019. This book represents a synthesis of scholarship on the history and development of personal hygiene in Canada, Europe, and the U.S. Types of records in the sub-series include journal article photocopies, research notes, correspondence, publicity materials, manuscript copies, and chapter drafts of the book. Photocopied documents retained by the archivist include some sort of annotations by Ward. This project included some digital-born materials saved by Ward on a USB removable memory drive. Records saved as files on the drive included various journal articles or chapters in addition to a master bibliography for the project created in the software EndNote. Other *file formats included are Microsoft Word Documents (.docx and .doc), Microsoft Excel Documents (.xlsx and .xls) and PDFs.

Some of the records in this subseries are in Italian, French, and German.

40th Anniversary series

Series consists of 36 video tapes of celebrations about the 40th Anniversary of the Faculty of Education. These celebrations took place over several dates at different schools within Vancouver from May to July 1996. All dates, titles, and times are adopted from the written notes on the tapes themselves or from the transcripts.

Asia-Pacific Economic Co-Operation series

The series consists of files from the Office of the President of the University of British Columbia, relating to the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) meeting held at UBC on November 25th, 1997. Files relating to the Office of the President's involvement in the meeting organization, the build-up to the incident and its aftermath. The series includes correspondence, media files, student complaints, reports, memoranda, pamphlets, meeting minutes, and legal documents. Files have been arranged chronologically. Other records related to APEC that may be of interest can be found at UBC Archives in the following; APEC Inquiry Collection and B.C. Civil Liberties Association – APEC Inquiry fonds.

Audiovisual series

The series consists of audiovisual material about Coghill's acting career. In addition, there are audio and visual records from her 2003/2004 performance of Song of this Place at the Frederic Wood Theatre, two CBC television programs, a demo reel, a promotional video of the Courage to Dream production, and three audio recordings of poetry, short stories, and a 1995 production of the Noah's Ark opera. Included from the 2017 accession are recordings of TV coverage of Song Of This Place, audio recordings about Song Of This Place, and a DVD recording of Joy's son Gordon Thorne accepting a Gemini Award on her behalf.

Canadian Federal Government series

This series contains records relating to projects worked on by Distance Education and Technology in collaboration with the Canadian Federal Government, including “Educational Support Services Canadian Forces Continuing Education Program” and “Program for North American Mobility in Higher Education.” It includes correspondence, application information packages, project proposals, contracts, budgets and resumes. The series is arranged according to the filing system provided by the creator.

Ellen Jaffe fonds

Fonds consists mainly of correspondence between Ellen Jaffe and Jane Rule, written between 1996 and 2001. The first series follows a letter Jaffe wrote to Rule in appreciation of the TVO film Fiction and Other Truths about her life and work. The rest of the letters deal with Jaffe asking to use quotes from the film in her book Writing Your Way and her visiting Rule on Galiano Island in 2001 to give her a copy of the book. The folder also includes a copy of Jaffe’s book, with the quotes from Jane Rule bookmarked.

Awards series

This small series consists of curriculum vitae, certificates of recognition, correspondence regarding the visiting Seagram Chair and contracts, letters, award notifications and sales reports for Making Vancouver. The object included is the UBC Killam Teaching Prize Award.

Jean Coulthard subseries

Subseries consists of notes, articles, correspondence, drafts, papers and miscellaneous research materials relating to Jean Coulthard.

Essays and Criticism series

Series consists of essays and literary criticism by Bullock. The essays include My encounters with Japanese Poetry and Literary Translation: Theory and Practice.

Infant Mortality Project subseries

Subseries consists of research notes and annotated German-Language articles on Infant Mortality between 1880 and 1940. The Infant Mortality Project looked at the changing medical understanding of infant mortality before WWI. Ward pursued a professional and personal interest in this project, but it did not reach the publication stage.

UK subseries

This subseries consists of records relating to the collaboration between UBC and various universities and educational organizations in the UK. It includes correspondence, program information, and draft reports.

Miscellaneous series

Series includes CVs, correspondence, written notes, photographs, and a CD-DA recording of an interview with Kevin Chong.

Audiovisual series

The series consists of a VHS and DVD copy of Fulton’s information on structural change and a CD-ROM from the UN about the women’s movement.

Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies fonds

DVDs series

Series consists of DVDs pertaining to the Johanneans’ activities, including world reunions. Series is arranged into twelve files.

Governments and Associations series

Series consists of records documenting the Department's relationship with the British Columbia Ministry of Health and various non-governmental organizations, particularly the Canadian Association of Professors of Medicine, and includes correspondence and reports.

Fraser River Project series

Series consists of video recordings made for a documentary on the history of the Fraser Canyon (titled “On The Fraser”), focusing on the First Nations of that region and the building of the Canadian Pacific and Canadian National railways. It was a joint project by the UBC Departments of Geography and Theatre and Film, with graduate students led by Raymond Hall (Theatre and Film) and Cole Harris (Geography). All recordings are in Betacam format.
