Coursework series

Series consists of notebooks, arranged by subject, containing lecture notes, lab reports, exams, assignments and essays generated by McDill during his studies in Mechanical Engineering at UBC and the Royal Military College of Science in England. Series is arranged alphabetically.

The collection consists of correspondence, printed material and clippings which document the early history of the International House movement on campus in the early 1950s. At that time, William Black was acting as faculty advisor to the International House Committee.

Personal Papers series

The series includes correspondence, legal documents, certificates, written verse, and various written memorabilia and artifacts acquired by Sedgewick and his family.

Series consists of minutes, programmes, correspondence, reports, financial statements, and other textual material related to Paulson's involvement with the Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia (RNABC), in the positions of Chair, Private Duty Nursing Section (1935-1937); Secretary (1943-1945); Honourary Secretary (1946); and President (1951-1953).

Sedgewick Memorial Collection series

The Sedgewick Memorial Collection was gathered by friends of Sedgewick following his death to honour his achievements.
Series consists of letters, verses, speeches and articles written by Sedgewick, photographs, a scrapbook of Sedgewick's newspaper columns, and printed materials. In addition, the series includes correspondence, sketches, and reports relating to the establishment of the Sedgewick Memorial fund and the Sedgewick Memorial reading room in the Main Library. Correspondence in files 4-23 was forwarded to the University Archives by Robert P. Aproberts in 1995.

Campus Forest series

Series consists of reports, correspondence, exhibition logs, and contracts, covering aspects of the administration and supervision of the Campus Forest. They are arranged in the following sub-series: Supervision, Nursery Records, Surveys, and Timber Sales.

B.C. Parent-Teacher Federation series

Series consists of correspondence, reports, financial materials, printed material, and a cash book about the administration of the B.C. Parent-Teacher Federation. The series includes a scrapbook containing minutes and newspaper clippings. The Department acquired them from the Home Economics Permanent Committee of the B.C. Parent-Teacher Federation.

Lewis family fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, speeches, scrapbooks and photographs pertaining to Hunter Lewis and other members of his family including Stella Lewis (wife), Bertha Lewis (mother) and Dr. George Albert McGuire (father-in-law) who served as a Conservative MLA for Vancouver about the time of World War I. The fonds also includes four Bertha Lewis' diaries (1934-1957). Included in this family material is a large assortment of records from the Federation of Canadian Artists, which Hunter Lewis collected in the 1940s and early 1950s.

International House Collection (Stanley Read)

The collection consists of records relating to the establishment of International House at the University of British Columbia. The materials, generated between 1953 and 1955, provide background information about events leading up to the establishment of International House, particularly the negotiations with the Vancouver Rotary Club which donated $150,000 toward the project.

Series consists of copies of 46 scripts prepared by George Woodcock for radio broadcast, most for the CBC.

Royal Commission on National Development in the Arts, Letters & Sciences series

In 1949, the federal government established the Royal Commission on the Arts, Letters and Sciences under the chairmanship of Vincent Massey. Its broad purpose was "an examination of the activities of agencies of the Federal Government relating to radio, films, television, the encouragement of arts and sciences, research, the preservation of our national records, a national library, museums, exhibitions, relations in these fields with international organizations, and activities generally which are designed to enrich our national life, and to increase our consciousness of our national heritage and knowledge of Canada abroad." MacKenzie, Arthur Surveyor, Georges Henri Leveque and Hilda Neatby served as commissioners. Hearings of the commission were held in major Canadian cities (August 1949 - July 1950), with 462 submissions filed. The resulting report played a significant role in shaping the government's cultural policies.
The series consists of the actual working files developed and maintained by MacKenzie while he served on the Massey Commission. It includes correspondence, working papers, briefs presented to the commission, the documents of various special subcommittees, the Royal Commission's report, extensive newspaper clippings and miscellaneous printed material.

Subject Files series

Series consists of radio addresses, speeches, correspondence, minutes of meetings, and reports about Sage's interest in B.C. history. Includes personal names files that contain research notes, correspondence, and published or printed material about various individuals. It also includes property records about sites in Vancouver and Point Roberts. Series is divided into two subseries: Miscellaneous Subjects and Personal Names subseries.

Agriculture series

The series consists of correspondence, reports, course materials, and published materials (including off-print articles, clippings, and pamphlets). The records deal in general with agriculture and the Faculty of Agriculture.

Biographical series

Series consists of clippings and articles about L. Holland, a brief CV (1931), a UBC honorary degree citation, a copy of her will and some copies of published obituaries added to the collection following her death.

Articles and Reviews series

Series consists of articles, reviews, correspondence, clippings, photographs, reports, essays, and applications pertaining to Sage's professional activities, including those within the UBC Department of History. The series contains five subseries: Articles, Reviews, Other Material, Later Papers, and Department of History subseries.

These sketches were commissioned for an article on UBC in the ILN, 22 September 1956 (pages 467-470). Some have captions or notes attached, and notes on the verso regarding those printed in the ILN. The Library acquired them in January 1991. The drawings include the UBC Library's interior, the Library from the outside, the exterior of the Science Building, view looking north from the top of the Science Building, Brock Hall, the War Memorial Gym, the Wesbrook building, and an experiment in a laboratory in the Science Building.

Research and Reports series

Series consists of technical reports authored by George Volkoff and others. Although most of the reports are unpublished, some were originally “classified” and are about various aspects of experimental and theoretical work done at the Montreal Laboratories for the Manhattan Project during and after World War II. There is also one report to the Canadian Association of Physicists co-written by Volkoff. Files are arranged in chronological order.
