The fonds consists of correspondence, reports, minutes of meetings, and published materials such as programs and flyers, and documents the programs and activities of the Department. The records of the Department of Athletics and Recreation fonds are representative of the athletics side of the Department of Athletics and Recreation. While athletics and recreation fall under the same department, in practice, they operate independently of one another. Their textual records are also physically held at separate locations. Surviving records in the Department of Athletics and Recreation fonds are broadly representative of the achievements of UBC athletes and teams. Far less extensive, are the types of administrative documents produced or accumulated in the course of the day-to-day business of the department. Examples of records present in the fonds include programs, historical research, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, team rosters, scoresheets, profile write-ups, yearbooks, media guides, correspondence, agendas, training schedules, coaching handbooks, travel itineraries, and ephemera.
The Department of Athletics and Recreation fonds is arranged in the following series; Athletics photographs, Athletics History, Baseball, Basketball, Athletic Events (including Big Block, Hall of Fame, and Millennium Breakfast), Cross Country Track and Field, Field Hockey, Football, Golf, Ice Hockey, Media & Promotions, Assorted Sports, Other Sports (which includes Skiing, Sailing, Tennis, Gymnastics, Rowing and Wrestling), Rugby, Soccer, Swimming and Volleyball.

Fonds consists of minutes from the Dept. of Animal Science (1970-1981), the Department of Poultry Science (1968-1982), and the University Research Farm (Oyster River) Management Committee (1955/56). Also included are records about the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in general.

Fonds includes materials regarding the livestock breed by the department and the much-acclaimed cattle herds.

During its early years, the Department concentrated mostly on public education and outreach, and the material reflects this, for it includes a large number of inquiries from local farmers and gardeners regarding their crops. It is arranged in an identifiable classification system that is consistently used and developed throughout the years.

The first binder is composed of departmental administrative records, including memos, correspondence, personnel information and committee reports. The second set of material includes correspondence, memos and reports about Graduate Studies from 1951 to 1963.

The collection consists of records associated with Librarian Ture Erickson's participation on the Day of Concern Committee in 1984. The material begins early in 1984 and continues through to the September "Day of Concern." Included are handwritten minutes of the meetings, printed material, correspondence, clippings, memorabilia, posters and copies of addresses given at the Robson Square Media Centre.

The majority of the material in this fonds relates to the research conducted by Whittaker while at UC Berkeley. This work includes studies of members of the Free Speech Movement, a series of student protests and acts of civil disobedience that took place during the 1964-65 school year. Other research focuses on profiling the nonstudent population at Berkeley circa 1965, as well as students cited as a result of protests and demonstrations in 1966. Research material includes survey and questionnaire drafts and responses, as well as notes, coding, and calculations. In addition to his research material, this fonds includes some drafts of papers published and/or presented by Whittaker, as well as correspondence with publishers and collaborators. Also included is a collection of annotated clippings, articles, and publications documenting and analyzing student activism throughout the 1960s and 70s, as well as some general professional correspondence and copies of papers presented at conferences throughout his career.

Fonds consists of textual and audiovisual material related to David Suzuki's professional work. It includes notes and manuscripts of several of his books, including From Pebbles to Computers and Sciencescape and copies of correspondence relating to his articles published by The Globe and Mail, the Southam News Syndicate and Science Dimension in the 1980s. It also includes correspondence relating to his professional work, his broadcasting and literary career, his work in the Department of Zoology at UBC, and research materials, information and correspondence regarding various associations to which Suzuki belonged or had dealings. It also includes recordings of David Suzuki's "Discovery" and "Equinox" from 1983-1990 and video recordings of some episodes of "The Nature of Things" from 1994, and copies of his speeches from 1985-2009.
