Canadian Machine Gun Corp. series

Series consists of notes, correspondence, reports, and historical accounts about a history of the Canadian Machine Gun Corp. written by Harry Logan. Series contains two subseries: History and Correspondence subseries.

Canadian National Commission for UNESCO series

The Canada Council established the Canadian National Commission for UNESCO in August 1957. Some of the activities originally envisaged for the Commission included liaising with government and non-government agencies, recommending future UNESCO programs, and serving as a clearinghouse for information on UNESCO matters. Norman MacKenzie served as the Commission's first president. The series consists of correspondence, working papers and printed material dating from 1957 to 1964. Some later material may also be found in the Subject Files series.

Canadian National Railways series

Series consists of materials collected while Fournier was writing his book Railway Nationalization in Canada: The Problem of the Canadian National Railways and includes correspondence, drafts of chapters, book reviews, book orders, receipts, invoices, statements of sale and a carbon copy version of the book itself. Also included is a 5-part series of newspaper articles entitled The Railways Problem in Canada.

Canadian Universities Foundation series

The Canadian Universities Foundation was the "executive agency of the National Conference of Canadian Universities and Colleges." The Foundation addressed the changing needs of Canadian universities, advocating increased support - primarily financial. In addition, Norman MacKenzie served as chairman of the NCCUC Advisory Committee on International Studies.
The series consists of a small amount of correspondence and some working papers, but the bulk of the material consists of printed matter. The series is based primarily on MacKenzie's report for the Foundation on the Teaching of International Studies in Canadian Universities. There are copies of the final report in various forms in French and English, i.e., typescripts galley proofs.

Canadian Writer's Handbook series

Series consists of records about the Canadian Writer's Handbook, a writing guide co-authored by Messenger and Jan de Bruyn that was published in 1980 (1st ed.), 1986 (2nd ed.) and 1995 (3rd ed.). There are two subseries: Miscellaneous subseries and Subject subseries.

Canadian Yearbook of International Law series

Series consists of records documenting Bourne's duties and activities as editor of the Canadian Yearbook of International Law, including manuscripts, correspondence, grant documentation, Editorial Board records and minutes, and published materials. The records are arranged in two sub-series: Manuscripts and Correspondence.

Capilano College Council series

Series consists of minutes, reports, and correspondence of the governing council of Capilano College. Also included are calendars published by Capilano, Cariboo, Vancouver Community, Maple Pine, and Okanagan Colleges.

Card Catalogue series

8” x 5” index cards cataloguing the Arkley Collection in Rare Books and Special Collections. Authors/Titles/Series A-K box was not included with the original acquisition.

Card Indexes series

Series consists of six file drawers of index cards generated by M.Y. Williams in his research and one box of index cards documenting his map collection.

Career Records series

The series consists of records relating to Granirer’s teaching career. This series includes a Curriculum Vitae, US immigration papers, correspondence and employment notices. Also present are student evaluations of Granirer’s classes.

Carnegie Foundation series

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching was "almost entirely devoted to the payment of allowances and pensions to which it was committed before 1931 when the list of individuals eligible for benefits was closed." Norman MacKenzie served as a trustee for the Foundation. The series consists of correspondence, working papers and printed material.

Cartography series

Series consists of correspondence and manuscripts pertaining to Verner's published and unpublished works in the area of historical map description. Verner was renowned in the map world for his scholarship in this area. Series also includes a collection of over 400 published maps and a considerable amount of research material, mainly in the form of index cards containing bibliographic descriptions. Appendices contained in the paper copy of this description and file list (located at UBC Archives) provide a listing of other materials he collected in the pursuit of this interest: title pages from atlases, facsimiles, photostats of maps, and miscellaneous cased items.

Cassette Tape series

Series consists of 83 cassette tapes of W.T. Lane's lectures, which correspond to his lecture notes. This audio is available from the archives vault AT UBC 3239-3296 and 2007 accrual UBC 3339-3363. Please ask archives staff for access.

Catalytic Visitor series

Series consists of one file detailing the selection of Gideon Davies as the Catalytic Visitor in 1999-2000 and includes correspondence, applications, CVs and reference letters.

Note: The Catalytic Visitor Program existed from 1998-2000 and has been proposed to be replaced by the Distinguished Visiting Professor Program.

Celluloid Dreams series

Celluloid Dreams (2002), a documentary directed by James Dunnison, looks into the artistic processes and inspirations of some of the best independent filmmakers in the genre of fantasy, nightmare and adult fairy tales. The sixty-minute production includes interviews and exploration into the films of directors Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Guy Maddin, David Lynch, and the Brothers Quay. Also included is an interview with writer George Toles. Films examined include Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Lightening Hallway, City of Lost Children, Santa Nightmare, Green Mist, Un Chien Andalou, Le Monde d'Amelie, Dracula, Careful, Tales from the Gimli Hospital, Foutaises, Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain, Organ Music, Wild Heart, Blue Velvet, and Institute Benjamenta.

Series consists of a digital master tape, a set of video and audio elements and textual material relating to the development of the production.

Centennial Commission series

The Federal Government established the Centennial Commission as a crown corporation in 1963. Its goal was to coordinate and administer centennial projects for the federal government and joint ones with the provinces. A National Committee composed of citizens from across Canada meets periodically with the commission and its board of directors. MacKenzie was one of a six-person board. The Centennial Commission was wound up in 1968. The series consists of correspondence and working papers. The working papers are divided into agendas, minutes, memoranda, and agenda documents arranged chronologically. The correspondence is arranged alphabetically by year.

Central File series

Series consists of agendas, minutes, publications, reports, financial statements, statistics, and surveys generated by the Community Relations Office. Files within series are maintained in the classification system of originating office.

Central Files series

Series consists of records relating in a general sense to the functions, programmes, and activities of the Department of Medicine and includes correspondence, reports, and published materials. Most files are colour-coded and include "UBC Department of Medicine" or a similar phrase in the title. Other Departmental files have been interfiled where appropriate, and all are arranged alphabetically by subject.

Central Files series

Series consists of files originally kept in a numeric central filing system, and includes correspondence, reports, published materials, and minutes. File numbers range from 3.152 to 3.237, and from 4.75 to 4.120. Not all files are numbered, but they have been kept together based on their titles, contents, and their proximity within the boxes when they were transferred to the Archives.

Central Office File series

This extensive series consists of records maintained in the President’s office. Arranged alphabetically by subject and then chronologically, these files include correspondence, reports, statistics, teacher evaluations, manuals, agendas, Board of Governor Committees, budgets, buildings and facilities, President’s permanent and temporary committees, salaries, finances, student discipline and Faculty department files amongst many others. Also present is a file on the Clinton/Yelstin summit in 1993 and records relating to Trek 2010. Please review the file list below for additional records present in the series.

Central Office Files series

Series consists of minutes of meetings of the Council for the Centre for Continuing Education, minutes of meetings of Program Directors and internal committees, correspondence, policies, contracts, budgets, grant proposals, and general information about the general administration of the Centre for Continuing Education.

Ceremonial Greetings and Congratulations series

Series consists of ceremonial greetings and congratulations arising primarily from the appointments of K. George Pederson (1983), David W. Strangway (1985), and Martha Piper (1997) as UBC presidents, and William Sauder (1996) and Allan McEachern (2002) as Chancellors.

CERN series

This series consists of records related to Craddock and TRIUMF’s partnerships, correspondence, funding from, research published with and consultation with CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

Certificates series

The series consists of 4 oversized certificates, including Peebles’ diploma from UBC and photocopies of high school certificates and newspaper clippings.

Series consists of honorary degrees and other certificates commemorating honours received by Nemetz during his lifetime.

Chapman Awards series

Series consists of records documenting the Chapman Awards, which recognize outstanding student volunteer involvement and leadership. Records include correspondence, reports, and student applications. Files are arranged in chronological order.

Chasing the Cure series

Directed by Aynsley Vogel, the four-episode science documentary Chasing the Cure (2002) (also known as The Cutting Edge) explores the work and personal stories of four Canadian scientists looking for the cure to diseases such as heart disease, cancer and bacterial poisoning. It looks toward the future of medicine in light of this research. The 60-minute episodes focus on the work of Dr. Michael Hayden, a University of British Columbia expert on heart disease and Huntington's disease; Dr. Freda Miller, a Toronto expert on neurobiology and stem cell research; Dr. Brett Finlay, a University of British Columbia professor who is leading researcher of pathogenic E-coli and salmonella; and Dr. Brenda Gallie, a Toronto expert on cancer and a leading Retinoblastoma researcher. In addition to Hayden, Miller, Finlay and Gallie and members of their families, individuals interviewed include Dr. Alan Bernstein, President of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Dr. Donna Senger, Dr. Nancy Olivieri, Dr. Andrew Potter, Dr. Paul Goldberg, Dr. Ron Warton, Dr. Robert Hancock, Dr. James Scott, Dr. Martin Raff, Dr. David Kaplan, Dr. Chris Bleakley, Dr. Stanley Falkow, Dr. Helen Chan, Dr. Mark Selikowitz, Dr. Simon Pimstone, and Dr. Laura Frost.

Chief Nursing Officer Study series

Series includes records of the research and writing of Chief Nursing Officers in National Ministries of Health: Focal Points for Nursing Leadership, published by Richard and Verna Splane in 1994. Records include correspondence, reports, notes, articles, drafts, travel pamphlets, speech transcripts, and interview transcripts. Series is partially organized by region visited and arranged by the donor.

Child Study Centre Series

Series consists of background material, correspondence, minutes, manuscripts and printed materials related to the UBC Child Study Centre.

Children’s Books series

The series consists of correspondence, drafts, manuscripts, and other records related to works for children authored by New. Books represented include Vanilla Gorilla (1998), Llamas in the Laundry (2002), Dream Helmet (2005), The Year I was Grounded (2009), and Sam Swallow and the Riddleworld League (2013).

Children's Books series

Series consists of records related to McNeil’s children’s books. It contains drafts, correspondence with McNeil’s editors, publishers, publicists, as well as contracts with the same. It also consists of general conferences and reading programs that she attended or participated in.

China Tour series

In 1978 James Thornton participated in an adult educators’ visit to the People’s Republic of China. Organized by UBC’s Adult Education Department and the Centre for Continuing Studies, the objective of the tour was to examine how the newly-formed Chinese Government after the fall of the “Gang of Four” would use forms of formal and informal adult education programs and professional training initiatives to repair China’s social fabric and revitalize economic structures devastated by the “cultural revolution”. Shortly after the UBC group arrived in Shanghai in the summer of 1978, they were joined by a group from the University of Alberta and then continued on a three-week tour of China.

This series includes 746 slides taken during the trip, a group photograph and a short description of the tour from Thornton’s autobiography. The slides have been removed from their original boxes and transferred into slide sleeves and put into file folders. The original descriptions from the slide boxes have been transferred to the file descriptions.

Chinese in Canada series

Series consists of materials collected by Edgar Wickberg that document the history of the Chinese community in Canada or that document public perceptions of the Chinese-Canadian community. It consists primarily of newspaper and magazine clippings and correspondence, notes, and other published materials.
