The fonds consists of minutes for the Boilermakers' and Iron Shipbuilders' Union of Canada, Local No. 1 (1943-45) and Marine Workers and Boilermakers Industrial Union, Local No. 1 (1945-77), general correspondence (1956-68), membership correspondence (1960-68), Workmen's Compensation records (1956-75), photographs, transcripts of interviews with pioneer members of the Union, printed material, and draft manuscript for "A History of Shipbuilding in British Columbia".

The Norris fonds documents the legal and judicial career of the Honourable Mr. Justice Thomas G. Norris. The papers date between 1906 and 1976, with the bulk of records dating between 1930 and 1975 documenting his law practice and his years on the Supreme and Appeal Courts of British Columbia.
Part I of the fonds consists largely of correspondence and printed material, including scrapbooks relating to the Industrial Commission as well as case notes and legal papers relating to other cases, 1947 - 71, (2 meters). Owing to a previous donation of annotated transcripts of the hearings of the "Industrial Commission as to Shipping in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River System" in 1963, other material relating to the investigation of the activities of Harold Banks was donated in December, 1989. The 108 volumes and index to the hearings are catalogued (SP HE 769 A25).
Part II of the fonds consists of professional files, judicial subject files, case files, personal papers, miscellaneous papers and photographs (7 meters).
Part III of the fonds consists of professional correspondence donated by Jerry Vanson of Kelowna in 2011, as well as personal correspondence, scrapbooks, and photographs donated by Norris’ grandson, also named Thomas Norris, in 2014.

The bulk of the records in the fonds are located in Part II in the Professional Files, Judicial Subject Files, Case Files, and Personal Papers series.

The Professional Files series, including materials newly processed in 2019, consists mostly of case files generated by Norris during his years as a lawyer in Kelowna and Vancouver. Also included in this series are subject files with additional information about areas of interest. For example, Norris created several files with documentation on the Associated Fruit Growers Ltd. and other marketing boards (1927 - 49). Other interesting subjects include the Kelowna Police Inquiry (1929-30), the Japanese claim Commission (1950), Rex v. Ducharme - murder case (1950), and politics (1932-35). The ''Politics" files provide a great deal of information about Norris' Conservative party interests and the process behind the appointment of a lawyer to Queen's counsel. Additional professional files created while Norris was practicing law in Kelowna (file#663-1109) were discovered and donated in August, 1990. The file list for these materials is now located on pages 34-39 of this finding aid.
The Judicial Subject Files series in Part II documents Norris' career on the Bench and his subject interests. The files include correspondence surrounding his appointment to various levels of the judiciary, files created during his judicial career and other judicial matters. For example, files often contain judgements, cases considered, clippings and other related materials. The case of Regina vs Bob & White documents the various issues considered before a decision was handed down on aboriginal hunting and fishing rights in B.C. Also included in this series are documents relating to the St. Lawrence Seaway Inquiry. Other files include subjects of the law such as divorce, Native Indians and Legal Aid. Files also included records created about the Admiralty Court, the Supreme and Appeal Courts of British Columbia and the Yukon Territorial Courts.
The Case Files series in Part II includes court documents and notes drafted by Norris. These case files were separated from other case files by Norris probably because of personal interests and the volume of materials. Each subseries of records document a case: Buttle Lake, in Strathona Park (1951), the Vancouver Policy Inquiry (1955), B.C. Telephone's Application for rate increases (1950), Royal Commission on Energy (1958) and Gordon Wismer v. MacLean Hunter (1954). The Buttle Lake files include transcripts of hearings conducted in Courtenay and Victoria, notes and some materials related to submissions presented to the Water Comptroller. Norris represented several groups opposed to the construction of the dam at Buttle Lake. The Wismer v. MacLean-Hunter files include examinations for discovery of Blair Fraser and Gordon S. Wismer, briefs and other materials used by Norris as he represented the Attorney General of B.C., Gordon S. Wismer against MacLean-Hunter magazine in a slander and libel suit.
The Personal Papers series in Part II reflects Norris’ personal interests, and also contains business or legal materials. For example, in this series are files and correspondence relating to the Law Society of B.C., the Law Society & Yale Bar Association meeting in 1958 and arrangements for the 1952 Judge Advocate luncheon. Other files reflect upon friendships with individuals such as Hugh Keenlyside and Leon Koerner. Materials newly added to this series in 2019 contain items such as travel souvenirs, birthday messages from Norris’ friends and family, and information related to Norris’ retirement. The Army Papers subseries contains records related to the time Norris spent serving in the Canadian military in World War II. These records range from 1939 to 1959, with the bulk of the records dating between 1941 and 1945.

The fonds consists of textual material (subject files, correspondence, minutes, financial statements, and printed material) relating to Tom McGrath's activities with the following unions: International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Ironworkers, Vancouver Local 97, 1955-1964; Canadian Ironworkers Local No. 1, 1960-1968; Wood, Wine and Metal Lather's International Union, 1960-1973; Canadian Brotherhood of Railway, Transport and General Workers, Seamen's Section, Local 400, 1968-1982; and the Canadian Merchant Navy Association, 1990-1995. The fonds also includes interviews with various individuals including Frank Kennedy, Art Kube, Cliff Anstein, and Jess Succamore, involved in solidarity and union issues, his political campaign on behalf of the New Democratic Party in the Vancouver-Little Mountain provincial riding, and photographs of the Second Narrows Bridge.

The fonds consists of minutes, correspondence, reports, legal documents, financial records, plans, sound recordings, published and printed material generated by the UFAWU, its locals and predecessor organizations including the United Fishermen's Federal Union, the Pacific Coast Fishermen's Union, and the Fish, Cannery and Reduction Plant and Allied Workers Union, as well as office files from former Presidents William Rigby, Homer Stevens, and Jack Nichols.

The fonds consists of general correspondence (1911-1963) with major correspondents such as William B. Burnett (1927-1963), J.R.V. Dunlop (1927-1955) and Fred M. Wells (1927-1941). It also includes Solibakke's daily diary (1934-1962), and family records, printed and published material relating to the mining industry, clippings files and photographs. Corporate material includes records from Cariboo Quartz Mining Company (1927-1961), Cariboo Amalgamated Gold Mining Company (1933-1939), Pine Grove Placers Ltd. (1935-1940) and Cariboo-Hudson Gold Mines Ltd. (1936-1941). Fonds includes maps of mines and topography, mostly in the Cariboo region of B.C.

The fonds consists of her photocopies of archival and printed material that she gathered in writing her book about Ginger Goodwin, British Columbia's legendary labour leader who was shot on Vancouver Island during World War I while evading the draft.

The fonds consists of textual materials, photographs, slides, negatives, sound recordings and memorabilia created and collected during Homer Stevens career with the United Fishermen and Allied Workers Union (UFAWU), as well as in his personal life. The fonds has been arranged into six series according to subject matter: Personal, UFAWU, Mt. Thurston Prison Camp, Printed Materials, Ephemera and Memorabilia, and Newspaper Clippings.

The fonds consists of records from the International Office (Denver), national office (Toronto), B.C. District Union files, Western District Union Files, and records of Canadian locals, the Western Federation of Miners, District No. 6 and its locals, the Sandon Miners Union, and the Metal Miners Union of the One Big Union (1920-1933). Records of individual locals vary from minute books and financial records, reports, and correspondence to extensive subject files and financial reports for larger locals. The fonds also includes a substantial photograph collection documenting union activities (1944 to 1962), tape recordings, films, charters, badges, official seals and recordings of Paul Robeson Peace Arch concerts (1950s).

The fonds consists of correspondence, addresses, lectures and reports. The fonds also contains pamphlets relating to Robertson's activities and some photographs and memorabilia.

The fonds consists of original as well as published maps pertaining to B.C. geology used by Hall.

The records in the MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. fonds span from 1866 to 2002. They represent the records of the three major predecessor companies, - Powell River Company; Bloedel, Stewart & Welch; and H.R. MacMillan Export - as well as records of the amalgamated corporations - MacMillan& Bloedel; MacMillan, Bloedel and Powell River; and MacMillan Bloedel Limited. Each of the original predecessor companies had a distinctive function, Powell River Company was a pulp and paper operation focused on the manufacturing of newsprint paper; Bloedel, Stewart, and Welch was a logging company whose main activities included acquiring timber lands and harvesting timber; H.R. MacMillan Export was a lumber trade and export company. When H.R. MacMillan Export and Bloedel, Stewart, and Welch joined in 1956 to form MacMillan and Bloedel Ltd., and then when Powell River Company joined in 1960, the resultant records of these amalgamations reflected all of the previously separated functions, and evidence the vertical integration of MacMillan Bloedel Ltd.

Records subjects include all aspects of the private Forestry industry, including: acquisition of title, licences, and leases to land, timber, and water rights; mapping, inventorying and cruising forests; building and maintaining access to timber resources via land and water; methods of harvesting timber, disposing of slash, and reforesting previously forested areas; methods of processing timber to make lumber and wood products, including pulp and paper; studies and reports on wood products ,the lumber trade and national and global markets; management of personnel and relations with labour unions; acquisitions of companies in allied industries; marketing of wood products; and responding to shifts in economy, public perception, British Columbian government legislation and industry regulations, and the legal recognition of the land and water rights of First Nations.

The records primarily relate to and originate from British Columbia, though some records are directly related to the creators’ relationships with, forestry operations on, and concerns in other nations and regions including; Florida and Alabama in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Japan and China, Southeast Asia and South America.

Records in the fonds have been divided into six separate sous-fonds to reflect the corporate body they originated from: MacMillan Bloedel Limited sous-fonds, Powell River Company sous-fonds, H.R. MacMillan Export sous-fonds, Bloedel, Stewart, and Welch sous-fonds, MacMillan and Bloedel sous-fonds, and MacMillan, Bloedel, and Powell River sous-fonds.

Within each of these sous-fonds records are further arranged into series, subseries, and in some cases sub-sub series to reflect the creating body and specific record type.

Record types consist of a wide variety of textual records including correspondence, meeting minutes, annual reports, ledgers, studies, tax records and workers’ compensation records, timber cruise reports, marketing materials, manuals, transcripts of narrative histories, financial records, news clippings, daily journals, receipts, contracts, and more. Non-textual records include individual photographs and photograph albums documenting individuals and business processes in the Forestry industry, as well as over 1,000 maps, primarily of British Columbia, and audiotapes, sound-recordings, films, ephemera and artefacts.

The fonds consists of incoming letters (1920-1944), outgoing letters (1917-1942), and business correspondence (1920-1942). Also included are stocks, receipts, tax returns, addresses, printed matter on Canadian and world politics, economics and industry, photographs, memorabilia, maps and plans.

The fonds consists of records created or accumulated by Wescoast Energy Inc. its predecessor company Westcoast Transmission Company, Limited, and their subsidy companies. Records relate to the activities of these companies and the gas and energy industry in British Columbia and North America, and have been arranged into the following eleven series: legal and financial records (1950-1996); record books and minute books (1949-1980); subject files (1949-2000); corporate publications (1950-2002); publications relating to Westcoast Energy Inc. and its subsidiary companies (1957-2002); books, articles and other publications relating to the energy industry in British Columbia and North America (1897-1996); executive speeches and addresses (1957-1997); photographs and slides (1950s-1994); video recordings (1978-1995); scrapbook (1957); and maps and plans (1945-1994).

The fonds consists of a draft of "Salmon: The Decline of the British Columbia Fishery", which includes footnotes that were deleted in the final version; sound cassettes and transcripts of interviews with prominent persons in the fishing industry and computer disks including various drafts of the book.

The fonds consists of blueprints of fishing rigs and gurdies.

The fonds consists of convention reports (1971-1984), annuals (1973-1976), briefs and submissions of the Council (1973-1978) and other printed records reflecting the operational activities of the Council.

The collection consists of ninety-one albums of postcards and photographs pertaining to views and scenes mainly in British Columbia, but also including Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and the Yukon as well as Europe. The views of British Columbia include views of the Rocky Mountains, Vancouver, Victoria, Mayne Island, and Buttle Lake (pre-1911) as well as those of logging (Capilano Timber Co., 1917-1920), mining (Granby Consolidated Mining, Smelting and Power Co. and Consolidated Cariboo Hydraulic Mining Co.) railways (Canadian Pacific Railway, Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway, and Great Northern Railway) and shipping. In addition, there are postcards and photographs of the Hudson's Bay Company Kamchatka Venture, 1921, U.S. Civil War portraits and New Zealand shipping.

The fonds consists of maps pertaining to the development of the Dolly Varden Mine and related projects in the Alice Arm area.

The fonds consists of two addresses on forestry (1956, 1958), eight reports on tracts of forest and water resources (1914, 1915, 1919, 1942, 1944), timber licence records (1911, 1932, 1950), maps and printed material (1917-1955).

The fonds consists of correspondence, a scrapbook, minutes, historical collections including ships' logs and the Harry Allison papers. Fonds includes photographs of the Fisherman Publishing Society, depicting labour and union activity, fish and fishing vessels, and the men and women who worked in the fishing industry.

The collection consists of approximately fifty small collections or fonds donated by individuals and organizations. It includes material (including photographs) from the following individuals or organizations: Yoshimitsu Akagawa, Rintaro Hayashi, Japanese Fishermen's Benevolent Association, Kishizo Kimura, Masajiro Miyazaki, Japanese Canadian Citizens' Association, Hideichi Nosaka, Yoshio Ono, Yukio Shimoda, Rinkichi Tagashira, Shingeichi Uchibori, Chiyo Umezuki, Tokikazu Tanaka, Yasutaro Yamaga, Tameo Kanabara, Richmond Berry Growers Association, Shogo Kobayashi, Skeena Fishermen's Association, Jisaburo Wakabayashi, J. Uno, Camp and Mill Workers Federal Labour Union, and Mitsuru Shimpo. The collection encompasses a wide range of topics including relocation to internment camps during World War II, farming, lumbering, religious activities, and personal reminiscences, as well as various organizational records. Individual collections have been arranged and described separately and filed in alphabetical order. Most of the manuscript material has been photocopied from original documents.

The fonds consists of personal materials including biographical information, correspondence (1905-1944), financial records (1892-1930), speeches, clippings and memorabilia relating to Canadiana and mining in British Columbia. Also included are collected historical items, most prominent amongst which are research materials relating to Alfred Waddington (1858-1872). The fonds also includes various collected historical items (1754-1889) and photographs of the E. Moss family, Esquimalt scenery and buildings, scenes of Nelson and Ymir mining, and Cape Breton scenery.
