The collection consists of correspondence, financial records and ephemera. There is correspondence from employees (managers) of the Kettle Valley Railway Co. (K.V.R.) and the Canadian Pacific Railway Co. (C.P.R.) relating to derailment, Chinese labour and housing and the building of railway lines. C.P.R. Superintendent Thomas Daly's letter press book includes outgoing letters from Daly to various C.P.R. employees pertaining to operations in the Nicomin area, east of Lytton in the Fraser Canyon, ca. 1881-1882. In addition, there are journals which describe railway employment and travel in 1910 and 1911. The activity and pay logs, coupon ticket books, pilot house log books and time books relate to certain aspects of the railway industry in Penticton, York, Okanagan Landing, Vancouver, and Victoria.

Fonds consists primarily of material related to Rush's activities as a leader of the CCP, political activist and writer in Vancouver from 1935 to 1996. There is also a personal/biographical series of records which detail the events of Rush's life. Other textual series in this fonds contain drafts of Rush's writings and public speeches, his correspondence, his reports and speeches to party conventions, and his published materials. There is a photographs series which details Rush's various editorial political trips to socialist countries during the Cold War. The memorabilia series also contains material related to Rush's trips abroad. There are pins, medals and commemorative coins from China, Vietnam and the Soviet Union. Finally, an audiocassette series contains recordings of some of Rush's speeches during the 1970s and 1980s.

The fonds consists of union membership cards, government documents, union constitutions and rule booklets and a Native Sons of Canada membership card and circulars (1916-1924). Records pertaining to the Native Sons of Canada (Vancouver Assembly) include union newspapers, subscriptions, financial records and personal and labour-related correspondence. The fonds also includes the immigration papers (written in Polish) of a young man and ephemeral material dealing with left-wing politics.

The fonds consists of materials relating to the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) of Vancouver. Included are records of the East Vancouver District Council of the CCF (1949-1951), the cashbook of Cedar Cottage CCF Club (1944-1951), general correspondence and CCF election literature and pamphlets.

The fonds consists of a notebook, notes, clippings, reports, speeches, correspondence, subject files, and printed material relating mainly in his union activities and concerns over safety issues on the job and leadership issues in the union. There are subject files relating to his union trial when he was suspended for actions detrimental to the best interests of the IWA that pertain to the disagreements between the "reds" and "whites" factions within the IWA in the 1940s.

The fonds consists of a bound minute book reflecting the administrative and operational activities of the Council between 1958 and 1961.

The fonds consists of letters, documents, records and printed material, concerning Starkin's attempts to be reclassified for the American military draft and his involvement with the Vancouver Exiles Association. Also included are transcripts of interviews (1975) for the film Salt of the Earth, concerning British Columbia labour history, produced by Starkins.

The fonds consists of correspondence, reports, scrapbooks and printed material relating to O'Neal's activities, mainly in the field of union organization (ca. 1965-1975).

The fonds consists of a typescript of Dent's article on B.C.'s first nurses' strike in 1980, two articles on nurses' collective bargaining, and a staff representative manual for the Registered Nurses' Association of B.C. (1978). Also included is a typescript entitled "The Beginning", which details the history of the collective bargaining of nurses.

The fonds consists of records relating to the organization of and labour relations activities of Transport Labour Relations and its predecessor, the Automotive Transport Relations Association (1960-1984). Records include minutes of the Board of Directors, briefs, reports, agreements (both proposed and ratified), legal documentation, and correspondence.

Fonds documents the administrative, financial and publication activities of the LHA, including the production of the film "For Twenty Cents a Day"; the slide-sound programs "These Were the Reasons..."and "Strike", both about the history of union organizing in BC; and ten issues of the journal "Labour History". The fonds consists of diaries, scrapbooks, and correspondence spanning the period 1910-2003 and related to the professional and personal lives of three generations of the Bamford family—William Blackley Bamford, his son William Blackley Stanley Bamford, and his grandson William Huestis Bamford—as well as to members of the Lasell and Ord families, related by marriage to William Huestis Bamford. Diaries in the fonds include concise “five year” or “line a day” diaries, as well as more detailed daily journals and many cover aspects of the Bamfords’ professional and personal life.

Scrapbooks in the fonds, which contain newspaper clippings, ephemera, correspondence, photographs, notes, and other material, primarily reflect the Bamfords’ personal interests, but also interests their chosen professions and employers, including the Canadian Pacific Railway Company and the Bank of Montreal. Beyond the incoming and outgoing personal and professional correspondence included in the scrapbooks, the Esther Adelina Lasell Bamford series contains incoming correspondence related to a branch of the Ord family living in New Zealand.

The records of Greenpeace International within this fonds reflect their broader campaigns to inform people and shape public opinion to oppose the clearcutting of old growth forests in Canada and elsewhere in the World. Records by Greenpeace Canada primarily include their efforts to cooperate with environmental non-governmental organizations, First Nations, forestry companies, and governments to achieve greater protection for old growth forests. The primary types of records include reports, communications, legal advice, court cases, planning materials, photographs, maps, ephemera, and posters. Most of the records in this fonds produced by Greenpeace Canada is from their Vancouver office. The fonds is organized into the following series: Clayoquot Sound Campaign and Protests (1980-2017), Great Bear Rainforest Campaign and Protests (1980-2017), Forest Stewardship Council (1992-2017), Rainforest Solutions Project (1991-2017), Research and Resource Collection (1979-2017), Ephemera and Posters (1993-2016), Maps (1964-2015), and Multimedia (1988-2007).

The collection documents Mark Thompson's involvement in the arbitration of labour disputes in British Columbia. It consists of published conference proceedings (1967-1979), copies of various collective agreements, arbitration and mediation case files (1973-1988), and reviews of the Employment Standards Act (1990-1996), and includes correspondence, reports, legal documents, notes, and published materials.

The fonds consists of minute books of the Guild from 1917 to 1967. The first monthly report of the Guild (March 1918) is included in the first minute book. Minutes of the Western Branch for 1966 and 1967 are also included.

The fonds consists of medical claim files, including doctors' certificates, labour codes and correspondence pertaining to Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada (Cominco) employees in Trail, B.C. between 1946 and 1974.

The fonds consists of minutes, correspondence, clippings, and reports of the Whalley NDP Club and its predecessors, the Newton local of the Socialist Party of Canada, East Whalley CCF Club and West Whalley CCF Club. Also included is a minute book of the Delta NDP constituency and outgoing letters from Len Shepherd (1938-1943).

The fonds consists of minutes, financial and office files of the Energy and Chemical Workers Union Local 614 and its predecessors, the United Oil Workers Union Local 3, the Oil Workers International Union Local 614, and the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union Local 16-614. The fonds also includes correspondence and agreements of Imperial Oil Ltd. relating to the initial unionization of workers at the Ioco Refinery, Ioco, B.C. (now Port Moody, B.C.), 1943-1946.

The fonds consists of correspondence, financial records, legal documents, subject files, surveillance files, and printed material relating mainly to the union activities of George Gee as a business agent for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Vancouver Local 213, his expulsion from the union by an international representative of the union, and his attempts to be re-instated.

The collection consists of two scrapbooks which record events relating to the Vancouver Trades and Labour Council and the Asiatic Exclusion League, Vancouver.

The fonds consists of records related to Thomas's activities as a politician, UBC professor, and community activist.
The fonds is arranged into series based on Thomas's activities. Records relating to the NDP have been divided into the New Democratic Party of Canada series, the New Democratic Party of British Columbia, Point Grey series and the New Democratic Party Vancouver Area Council series. There are also separate New Democratic Party Participation of Women Committee and New Democratic Party of British Columbia Standing Committee on Women's Rights series.
The fonds also contains records related to Thomas's activism in many areas. Thomas was an active member of many activist organizations, and these organizations comprise the Committee to Defend Political Prisoners in Quebec series, the Endowment Lands Regional Park Committee series, the BC Federation of Labour series, the Women's Selection Committee for Women's Health Advisory Committee to the Vancouver Health Board series, and the BC Federation of Women series.
Thomas also kept subject files and correspondence related to her activism that included material from several organizations, or from none. These records have been grouped into series based on the subject, including the Vietnam War series, the Women and Peace series, the Human Rights series, the Feminism Subject Files series, the Anti-nuclear war subject file series and the Labour Activities subject file series.
The fonds contains records from Thomas's time as a professor in the University of British Columbia series. Student essays written by Thomas are in the Student essays series. Thomas's research on Malcolm Lowry comprises a separate series.
