The collection consists of approximately fifty small collections or fonds donated by individuals and organizations. It includes material (including photographs) from the following individuals or organizations: Yoshimitsu Akagawa, Rintaro Hayashi, Japanese Fishermen's Benevolent Association, Kishizo Kimura, Masajiro Miyazaki, Japanese Canadian Citizens' Association, Hideichi Nosaka, Yoshio Ono, Yukio Shimoda, Rinkichi Tagashira, Shingeichi Uchibori, Chiyo Umezuki, Tokikazu Tanaka, Yasutaro Yamaga, Tameo Kanabara, Richmond Berry Growers Association, Shogo Kobayashi, Skeena Fishermen's Association, Jisaburo Wakabayashi, J. Uno, Camp and Mill Workers Federal Labour Union, and Mitsuru Shimpo. The collection encompasses a wide range of topics including relocation to internment camps during World War II, farming, lumbering, religious activities, and personal reminiscences, as well as various organizational records. Individual collections have been arranged and described separately and filed in alphabetical order. Most of the manuscript material has been photocopied from original documents.

The fonds consists of documents, letters, photographs and printed material relating to Frank H. Sherman and collective bargaining between mining companies in Fernie, B.C., Crow's Nest Pass and southern Alberta and the United Mine Workers of America, District 18.

The fonds consists of photocopied minute books of the Finnish Workers' Association "Raivaija" (1910-1918), Finnish Organization of Canada, Local No. 55 (1934-1969), and Webster's Corner Socialist Local (1922-1955). The fonds also includes photocopies of financial records of Local No. 55 (1949-1957) and of subject files pertaining to the development of the Finnish culture in Canada.

The fonds also includes information on the Allied Officers Club of Vancouver. Correspondence with her husband, Dr. H.R.L. Davis, includes over 500 letters (1940-1944) and includes information about the Canadian armed forces in Britain.

The fonds consists of records of the Vancouver Hoo-Hoo Club No. 48 and the International Concatenated Order of the Hoo-Hoo and the records of Scott's participation in these organizations. In addition, Scott compiled notes and lists on lumber retailers, wholesalers, forestry manufacturing units, and lumber exporters as well as a collection of rules for the grading and dressing of lumber, 1922-1970.

The fonds consists of records pertaining to B.C. Women's Rights committees as well as to the Task Force on Older Women in British Columbia. Included are sound recordings (cassettes) of hearings conducted by the Task Force, steering committee annual files (1975-1983), correspondence, committees, conferences, subject files, newsletters (1973-1984), publications, ephemera and resource files. The Task Force records include administration files (1979-1983), correspondence, briefs, hearings, publications, ephemera and printed material.

The fonds consists of an incomplete set of convention minutes and proceedings (1927-1959), scrapbooks of clippings from 1963, campaign literature, files from Cam Avery including material relating to the development of various Liberal policies, files from Pat McGeer pertaining to his tenure as party leader, papers reflecting election coverage in each riding for certain years and press clippings relating to the political careers of several Liberal MP's from 1969 to 1972.

Minutes of the Prince Rupert local and Great Northern Railway Section of Dock Employees for locals 501 and 507 are included. Subject files contain information on foremen's disputes and other strikes. The tapes consist of Canadian Area convention proceedings and caucus meetings. The cassette tapes were generated by an oral history project carried out by members of the ILWU Local 500 which led to a publication entitled "Man Along the Shore".

The fonds consists of 134 cassette tapes of 91 interviews with Japanese Canadians and two bound volumes containing an index to individuals interviewed, data sheets and consent forms for use of the material.

The fonds also includes photographs, clippings, two office files on union activities, copy of a report on the B.C. Hotel Industry (1978) and clippings and leaflets concerning election (1981). Some of the locals were located in Nanaimo, Nelson, New Westminster, Port Alberni, Vancouver and Victoria. Fonds includes a sound cassette of an interview of Jim Morrison on the history of HREU locals 28 and 40.

The fonds consists of minutes, financial records, inspection records, printed material, constitutions, by-laws, and correspondence of the association. Also included are rate manuals for fire and auto insurance, cannery inspection records, the University Endowment Lands properties and the Royal Canadian Navy at Esquimalt. In addition, maps of cities and towns in B.C. relate to the inspection reports of buildings in those centres.

The fonds also includes IAM Grand Lodge correspondence (1953-1973, incomplete), receipts (1919-1961) and records for Lodges 131 (1943-1961), 109 (1949- 1966) and 867 (1951-1964). Major correspondents include companies such as the Schlage Lock Company, Brunette Machine Works, and Bitco Sales and Service as well as the Metal Industries Association. The fonds also includes agreements, negotiations, and correspondence with many companies whose major customers are part of the mining, forestry and fishing sectors of the British Columbia economy.

The fonds consists of financial records, minutes, correspondence, legal documents, departmental files, broadcast transcripts, proceedings, convention reports, agreements, printed material and copies of the newspaper, British Columbia Lumber Worker. Also included in the fonds is the B. C. Lumber Worker Photograph Collection (1940-1982) which consists of images used in various publications to reflect the activities of the union.

The fonds consists primarily of records arising from a Boag Foundation-sponsored conference in 1983 based on the theme "Meeting the Challenge of the Eighties and Beyond." Many of the participants were prominent members of the New Democratic Party. Other materials in the fonds include correspondence of the Constitution and By-Laws Committee of the Provincial NDP (1977), political educational material from the Canadian Labour Congress, notes and press clippings.

The fonds consists of agreements and printed material detailing the activities of the United Steelworkers of America in British Columbia (1966-1973) and personal correspondence relating to King's activities (1973-1975).
